      Life has a lot to answer for sometimes, doesn’t it? It knocks us down, piles on the work, gives us sickness, or accidents, or difficult people to deal with. But then, every once in awhile, just about when you were ready to give it the finger, it does something marvelous. It lets love step up and give us a kiss that lets us know that everything will turn out all right. It’s all worth it.

      Which is why I write (and read!) romance stories. They remind us of the power love has to step into our lives and give every moment that extra bit of meaning and juice. In a romance, you know the people might struggle and fuss and feel horrible at times, but they’re going to get their happily ever after. And we want to be with them when they do.

      In this collection we have:

      Upwards – There’s always been a bit of a tension in outdoor adventuring between simultaneously facing life in the raw and avoiding what is (for most of us) the realities of real life. But whichever side you come down on, there’s no question that outdoor-challenge camps do force us to face some basic fears and limits and work our way past them. So why not fall in love on the way?

      The Swimsuit Shop – My goodness. Shopping for bathing suits. Need anything more be said? I believe it’s a contemporary form of self-flagellation we put ourselves through. But maybe, just maybe, it would be better if we got more than just an embarrassing suit out of it.

      Persistence Pays – I had a various sales jobs in my youth. Hated most of them. But they did teach me the power of
