Michelle Devon
Michelle Devon is sometimes affectionately (and sometimes not so affectionately) known as Michy. That’s pronounced Mickey, like the mouse, and not Mishy, like a fish; not Mitchy like the guy on Baywatch; and no, it doesn’t rhyme with bitchy, though she can sometimes be that too. Her last name, Devon, was not originally her legal name, but rather a pseudonym, chosen from her son’s middle name, both for privacy reasons and also because her maiden name was too similar to a famous and/or infamous celebrity with whom she found it impossible to identify. However, she has since legally become Michelle Devon, for all of her business purposes. For over eight years, Michy was a freelance print and web writer by day and an emergent novelist by night, until her family finally told her, “It’s your turn now.” Thinking they meant it was her turn to focus on her fiction writing career, Michy pushed freelancing to the back burner, completed three novels in three years, as well as starting three more that are in various stages of completion. She then began the journey of polishing, perfecting and per... puh.. P... well, running out of P words for alliteration, she began to search for a literary agent in January of 2010. Little did she know, literary agents don’t scrub showers (well, at least not other people’s–they might scrub their own), and her family had actually meant it was her turn to clean the bathroom. So, shower scum went unchecked, and Michy really needs to sell one of these novels to pay for the cleaning service to come and etch the mold, mildew, and muh... m... well, she ran out of M words for alliteration too.

Dream Walking
By Michelle Devon
~~~***~~~
Shana closed her eyes, listening to the soft drifts of music coming through the headphones. The woman's voice was telling her: …sleep… sleep deeply.
There was nothing more Shana wanted to do than just that.
While the music played, she desperately hoped to slip into the world of dreams--that place where reality and fantasy merged, with no definitive line between the two. That was one reason Shana had trouble falling asleep, because she feared losing her sanity to the fantasy.
Plus, in her mind, when she was able to sleep, Tom was always there waiting for her. The psychic connection she'd made with Tom still existed. During waking hours, she could push that connection to the back of her mind and ignore it—at least, most of the time. In her dreams, she could not do that. Each night, the dreams seemed more real than reality seemed to her. Morning frequently left her dazed and confused, withdrawn and exhausted.
She didn't know why, and she didn't know how it happened, but her psychic abilities drained her energies. What she did know was that, once, she had slept peacefully by his side, in the comfort of his arms, something she hadn't done since she was a small child and had slept with her parents. Now, the coldness of the bed and the empty pillow next to her often sent her out of the bedroom to the couch, where she aimlessly flipped through television channels with the remote control until sleep overtook and claimed her.
Shana had tried everything to sleep peacefully again. The department had suggested she see a therapist for counseling, because they were concerned her duties as a psychic profiler for the detectives in the department had worn on her. The dark circles under her eyes and the change in her attitude and mood were quite remarkable. They were mostly concerned about liability, and the exhaustion of not sleeping had worn enough on her that no one could deny it was affecting her health. She had no choice if she wanted to keep working for the department: She had to see a counselor. The department psychologist had recommended her to the Holistic Healing Center, where he felt they could
