Benjamin Jones

Who am I? My name is Benjamin Jones and I'm what's known as an independent (for the time being) author who is working tirelessly to make this dream of mine to be the world's greatest writer a reality (right now I'm simply the greatest writer that 99.99998% of the world hasn't heard of but I'm working to get that percentage a little lower). All jokes aside, I'm a person who has a family (wife, kids, dog, cat, all that good stuff) who works a 9-5 (actually a 7-4) job by day and writes whenever he can find the time. My goal in life is to be a writer and it's something that I take VERY seriously. Not having an agent at the moment I spend all my time either writing, promoting myself on Twitter/Facebook/Goodreads.com/etc...., or thinking of ways to get myself noticed by people. I'm been writing for a LONG time, probably a little more than half of the soon to be 34 years that I've been alive and only now are things really starting to show promise and I feel that the ball is starting to roll. My goal as a writer is to entertain my audience and to know that, once they have spent the money and time to purchase and read my book, that they will have felt it was money and time well spent.

    Chapter 1

Inside the darkened theater the last few frames of Vampire Apocalypse 4: The Deadening were running. As the closing credits began to roll on the screen and the lights came up most of the forty or so patrons, the great majority of them being young males, rose with the lights and began exiting, their feet sticking to the spilled soda on the floor and crunching on discarded popcorn kernels and candy wrappers.

As the crowd dispersed into the lobby one couple continued to sit, their eyes taking in the credits and their ears absorbing the sound of the heavy metal music that blared over them. She was a cutie in her early twenties named Melissa and had the most wonderfully dark and curly hair that you would ever lay eyes on to go with her thin nose, light eyes and sun-kissed peach complexion.

Her left arm was locked around the right arm of her boyfriend Cyrus as he continued to look up at the screen, his mouth full of popcorn and flashes of his fangs being displayed with every chew. Though he appeared to be around her age, considering his boyish looks, full head of hair and muscular frame, he was in actuality almost more than ten times her age; such was the life of a vampire that chose to love a human.

Well, what did you think? asked Cyrus as he turned his head from the screen and looked over at Melissa, his eyes shining in the light like those of a cat. Did you like it?

It was alright; better than the other three but that’s not saying much. I don’t really care for all that gory stuff that you’re into. Doesn’t it bother you to see vampires portrayed like such monsters?

Nah. Vampire movies have been the same forever but they don’t bother me because I know that I don’t act that way so, in my mind, they’re not talking about me.

    I know but still.

As long as they continue to make money then that’s the way things will be. Things are slowly starting to change for us. Now that we’re starting to get studios headed by vampires there are more roles opening up for us to be the leading man or woman and not simply the monster all the time. Regardless, it’s all entertainment and you’ll grow to like these types of movies just as I do.

I have no choice if I’m going to be with you.

"It’s what you get for making me watch all those chick flicks on the Lifetime network!"

She punched him lightly in the arm. Hey!!

I’m sorry, I’m sorry, he said with a smile on his face. You ready to get out of here?

    Yeah, let’s go.

They rose up and exited the theater, walking hand in hand together through the lobby and outside to the parking lot where they came to a stop in front of his car, a black Nissan Maxima. She leaned in close to him and whispered, I’m not ready to go home just yet.

He smiled and whispered back, Then where would you like to go?

I was thinking about the park since it’s real close plus it’s dark and very few people are around at this time of night.

Oh yeah? What could we possibly do at night inside of an empty park?

I can think of a few things, she said, blushing at the thought.

Well get in then and let’s make it happen.

No, not using the car; come here. He stepped up to her and she embraced him in a hug. Fly me there, she said softly into his ear. I want to know what it feels like to be up in the air.

You sure that that’s what you want?

Yes. That won’t tire you out too much will it?

No, that short of a distance won’t affect me at all. He wrapped his arms tightly around her. Hold on tight to me, alright?

    Okay.

She clutched him snugly as he elevated into the air, hovering a few feet above the ground as they both stared into each other’s eyes, oblivious to the strange stares they were getting from the humans and few vampires around them. Are you ready?

Yeah, she answered, biting her bottom lip as she nodded her head up and down.

They took off, flying through the air like a new millennium Superman and Lois Lane, Melissa’s head on a swivel as they soared through the night sky, slowly at first but gradually picking up speed as they flew.

Wow, she stated, her heart beating triple time as she peered down at the trees and the people below, her breath being taken away.

    Amazing isn’t it?

Very. If I were like you I would fly everywhere.

He began his descent as they approached the park, eventually settling down in the middle of a cluster of trees in the center of the deserted park, away from the prying eyes of anyone that did happen to walk by.

Turned on by the flight, as soon as their feet hit the ground, she began to
