Games Against Humans - Timothy Morgan

    Chapter One

Ed laysprawled on the sofa munching a huge bag of pickled onion crisps glued to the TV screen playing his latest video game; ‘Games against Humans’. It was the latest release and had been bought for him by his mum as a birthday present a few weeks ago.It was the best birthday present in the world.

Ed loved action games and hadmany scattered around him. Wherever you looked in Ed’s house there was evidence of video games. He could not get enough of them.

It has to be said Ed was good, very good, and he was probably the most talented gamer in the world. He spent hours trying to beat the bad guys and villains. Ed was fanatical and would very often stay up all night without his parents knowing, especially if he was on a mission. He just had to complete every level!Choose your weapon, take aim, fire. Another enemy disappeared from the TV set.Ed rolled around in delight. He was totally thrilled by blowing up and unravelling the villain’s plots.

Come on Ed bed time shouted Mrs. Eagleton.Ed’s mum always had a very tough job pulling him away from his games. There was always the just another five minutes routine from Ed.Hang on mum.I’m just about to wipe out the Gobbling Greenies shrieked Ed.Five more minutes Ed. I mean it now, said his mum.It was getting late and Ed had school the next day.Ed had been playing the latest release Gamesagainst Humans.

Ed loved it. He had loads of excitement to deal with. These bad characters were menacing and were starting to destroy humans, burning their houses down, cutting off their water and oil supplies, hacking major computer systems and bringing about the collapse of industries giants.

One villain, Doctor David Charles Medicus, was about to launch a bio-attack using the Chilla V Virus, whilst Frecco Green, head of the Gobbling Greenies, was intent on reducing the world’s oxygen supply to fatal levels. It was a fantastic game. It was so realistic that Ed could not get enough of it.Ed would laugh and scream as well known baddies were taken off his screen; some were very hard to fight off and had caused untold damage before they could be stopped and destroyed.

Computer Hacker and whizz kid, Wired Bry, led by Professor Ram, had successfully hacked into all the banks computer systems and was transferring money from the rich to the poor, reaping economic havoc. The two friends had spent days trying to remove the category one viruses that were spreading rapidly, bringing the world’s financial centres to a complete standstill.

    Chapter Two

Crafty Charley also loved Games against Humans. The pair of them would spend every weekend doing their best to kill off the evil plot-making game characters. The two were obsessed in stopping the games winning over the human race. They were getting really good and were starting to outsmart the bad characters, uncovering their plots and beating them at their own game. The pair had spent ages trying to defeat the revengeful characters. At last they seemed to be getting the upper hand.Well to be fair, Ed was the Mastermind!

Buster Mayhem had successfully re-wired the worlds telephone and communication systems causing outages and international security threats. Sneaky Sniper was trying desperately to shut down the entire oil supplies by blowing up hundreds of oil rigs and production plants. The friends had their hands full trying to outwit the enemies.

Ed and Charleywere a fantastic pair of gamers; nothing made them happier than destroying these characters and outwitting their evil plots. ‘The Birth of the Paper Men’ being level one and was by far the easiest. Ed and Charley loved blowing them up as they were so weak and had no guns or special powers. They were the first to be taken out!

The Paper Men were known for their incredible reproduction rate. They could form an entire army within minutes. Ed never let them get that far but often wondered what they could do if left untouched.

    Chapter Three

It was 9pm and Ed had finally gone to bed.Mr. and Mrs. Eagleton at last settled down to watch the evening news and turned on the TV.Reports are coming in that many trees have started to mysteriously vanish. Many newsagents were raided late last night across the Country;only newspapers and magazines were targeted. Police are baffled and have called in specialist investigators.

Mr. Eagleton shook his head in disbelief and said Pam that seems so ridiculous. Trees, forests and newspapers vanishing! What’s that all aboutI wonder? How is that possible? He chuckled to himself and muttered.Strange world we live in. Bet Ed turns into a video game too! I am worried about Ed and Charley George said Mrs. Eagleton. They are taking this latest game very seriously. I have never seen them so determined and absorbed about anything. It worries me. They should be concentrating on their homework. Ed has a science exam next week. She continued Ed awoke late last night screaming something about Paper Men attacking him. The game seems to be affecting himand he has never had a nightmare before George.

Little did George know the vanishing trees and forests were very serious and had been played down by the news channels at the request of the Government.

    Chapter Four

Deep in the sleepy village of Whoobury Green it was midnight. Wisey Owl pulled back his bed sheets and set his alarm clock for 6am. This was one hour earlier than most days.He shut his big brown eyes and fell into a peaceful sleep.

Early the next morning Viper the Snake found an opening in a very old cave on Saddlers Hill and Ronny Rat had started to scurry excitedly up its long corridor when he suddenly disappeared.Maveywas sure he had heard Ronny cry out for help?Rather concerned Fabien Fox was sent
