About this ebook
The Devil Takes the Bodies of dead women and girls just before they are buried. The "half-breed" Indians living over in Itawamba County in Mississippi are suspected. Most of the disappearances happened in that county and 3 in Monroe County. This is the story of the ninth, tenth and eleventh incidents which occurred in Lee County.
It wasn't the suspected indians.
Two young boys were among the first witnesses in Lee County. Their curiosity and "running wild freedom" resulted in them seeing the Devil several times. Eventually he takes them too.
The Devil continues his quests and eventually takes 11 dead women and girls. And he winds up with the 11 plus 3 live children, the 2 boys and an 11 year old girl.
The ending of the story proves that evil existed in Mississippi early in the last century.
The story is told in the language of that era.

I also attended the summer survival training at Hamilton Air Force Base in California.I was selected for Who’s Who among Students in American Universities and Colleges.I was a speaker for several technical organizations including the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. After Retirement from Lockheed Martin Aerospace CompanyAfter retirement from Lockheed I formed Parks-Jaggers Aerospace Company and sold it 4 years later. After selling my aerospace company I formed Quest Studios, Quest Entertainment and Rosebud Entertainment to make films at Universal Studios. Preface
This is based on a true story. It occurred in the early 1900's in the country side of Lee County Mississippi where I grew up. The story was told to me by a boyhood friend who heard it from his grandmother.
The story I heard was very sparse. I embellished it but did not change any basics.
Much of this story was experienced by children.
Enjoy,
Walter Parks
Chapter 1
Introduction
Lester had heard the story about the devil taking the dead bodies. But he didn’t believe it.
He didn’t believe much that he heard from the half-breeds living over in Itawamba County. They had mixed their old Cherokee beliefs with their new Christian teachings and come up with some really strange beliefs.
Best not to pay any attention to all that nonsense.
Lester wondered why he was even thinking about this again. Guess he had to think of something, walking behind these old mules. He always got bored plowing the fields for the first time each new crop year. Back and forth, row after row, watching old Kate and George switch the flies away with their tails.
That switching always flicked beads of mule sweat back in his face.
Damn mules.
Dam flies.
Suddenly the mule’s ears go forward to erect positions. Lester looks over in the direction they are looking.
There’s his neighbor, Harvey, riding towards him.
LESTER
(to mules)
Whoa!
The mules stop, and wearily watch the approaching rider. Harvey rides up and stops. The men stare at each other. Lester sees that Harvey is teary eyed.
LESTER
What’s wrong?
HARVEY
(choking back his emotion)
Mary Bell… She died.
LESTER
Damn.
(shakes head)
I’m sorry, Harv.
Harvey nods his head in appreciation. He is too emotional to talk. He looks over the fence and looks at a big bull staring at them. The bull paws the ground.
LESTER
Harv… I don’t know what to say… I…
HARVEY
Some things… some things you just can’t control…
(forces a smile)
Maybe I should paw the ground… think it could get rid of… of that helpless feeling?
LESTER
I’ll get my wife. We’ll come over and sit this afternoon… And evening.
HARVEY
I appreciate that.
He starts to ride away, but turns back to Lester.
HARVEY
And Lester… Bring your gun. I ain’t gonna let something take her body.
LESTER
Aw, Harve. You don’t believe them tales…
HARVEY
(interrupting)
Bring your gun.
They stare
