About this ebook
A witch raised in a cage of darkness...
Savannah Cross was born into a life of isolation and abuse.
As a child, she witnessed her parents perform acts of malevolent evil,
and now feels permanently tainted by their dark deeds.
When a coven discovers a tear stricken child,
wounded on their elders lawn,
they offer her a sanctuary she has never known.
Savannah spends the next several years shattered,
continuously looking over her shoulder,
waiting for the darkness to claim her.
On her 16th birthday,
Savannah’s life takes a drastic turn.
She is consumed by overwhelming power
that forever alters her emotionally and physically.
She must choose between two loves;
the one who taught her to smile
or the darkly seductive stranger who tempts her towards another path.
Savannah must decide between the coven that was her haven
and another one vying for her initiation.
Just as Savannah begins to grasp what fate has in store for her,
an evil looms over her loved ones;
coming to claim an unbreakable debt.
How will she survive the greatest evil she has ever witnessed... long enough to have a choice to make?

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a very interesting fantasy novel. The author includes many twists to keep the reader on the edge of his/her seat. The ending is not predictable at all-a little unexpected. The reader will enjoy getting to know the characters and watching their progress and growth in the novel; there are a few sudden character development traits that might leave the reader a little confused for a few seconds, but it doesn't detract much from the story. Savannah is the main character. She has very "negative" parents to say the least, they both practiced bad magic. They even perform human sacrifice rituals that will leave the reader with a bad taste in his/her mouth. They don't appear to care for Savannah much at all-she is kept in a cage in parts of the book. Savannah escapes at age 9, wandering to a home that she believes is safe. She is taken in, but she still has trust issues. The reader sees her story truly take off at age 15, where all the trouble starts when Savannah accidentally releases a demon. This book is fast-paced and fun to read. Savannah is an intriguing main character, she will keep the reader paying attention. The secondary characters are just as exciting to get to know-some in a bad way, most good. The reader will have a fairly easy time getting into the story and staying there. This book is recommended to fantasy readers.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really liked this book. There was so many different supernatural themes in this book that it could be enjoyed by all. Savannahs character was strong and vulnerable at the same time. I am excited for the next book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5By: J.D StroubePublished By: Euphoric Publishing and DesignAge Recommended: Y AdultReviewed By: Arlena DeanRating: 5Series: Caged #1Review:"Caged in Darkness" by J.D. Stroube was a good paranormal novel that once you got into this read you could get caught up into it especially if you love a witch story. This author really knows how to keep the readers attention giving you a very detail read. I found the characters were so well developed and described in such a way they seemed to come to life as you were reading this novel. Poor Savannah Cross was truly one that had lived a life that had been horrible and from this storyline will keep you turning the pages. There will be a lot of twist in this story so you will never really know what is going to happen next. If you are into a good paranormal read with witches, magic, psychics, supernatural, demons, angels, gods, shifters and horror, you have come to the right place for "Caged in Darkness" will give it all to you. Would I recommend?
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Savannah “S” showed up in the darkness at Maye Emmons’ home. She had escaped her parents – die hard black witches who made her watch sacrifices twice a week: human sacrifices – and was not going back. Fortunately, Meadow Falls knew all about her parents; they had helped found the coven there and had been kicked out of it when folks found out their dark leanings. Going to school was a chore, S had her best friend Willow and Maye’s other itinerant person, Ash to watch over her but they all want her. The Meadow Falls witches want her and the Sacred Moon group wants her more! Since her ascension is getting closer S’s magic is totally out of control. She tries to distance herself from stressful situations and naturally walks right into one. Liam, son of the Sacred Moon high priestess; is supposed to seduce Savannah (his special talent) into joining them. Ash, always there, always helping, has fallen hard for her himself. Which one? Neither? Many things can be changed with her choice.What a great story! An unusual plot, typical teen angst and bad, bad people all wrapped up in one. J. D. Stroube has done a most excellent job and I wait not too patiently to see her next tale.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I was invited to read and review Caged in Darkness by J.D. Stroub, from the author’s invitation, and I am very glad that I read this one. The book captures the best of my guilty pleasure reading, that of Young Adult coming of age stories.
Savannah, the main character is a sixteen year old on the threshold between the nursery and the adult world. Savanah has found a sanctuary from her parents, who appear at first the embodiment of evil. But then her world is tipped over when she accidently bumps a box over and releases a devil from his crystal palace. The devil is now bent on killing and possessing the innocent in order to regain his strength.
The book reminded me of Dawson’s creek and the love triangle between Joey, Dawson, and Pacey. The kids are so hormonally charged and have no real way to deal with this energy that the sparks lay right at the surface, and are about to light into a dramatic volcano. J.D. Stroub then adds a bit of the supernatural to the mix and the volcano spouts in a captivating young-love story.
Stroub’s understanding of the teen years is apparent; she perfectly describes the psychology behind teenager’s complicated and intense feelings. She mixes this psychology with a sense of humor in order to lift the reader up from the intensity.
One problem I had, which was probably my own fault, was the switch of narrators. I would be reading and then ask, “Wait who’s talking here? Okay its Ash, so this is a guy’s perspective, which makes sense.” This at times distracted from the overall story. But the different narrators did add something to the overall effect of the story.
Stroub’s research into the supernatural was great. It left me wanting to find out more about witches in history, the role of the niphilim, and fallen angels. I wish she would have spent a little more time developing the setting. I wanted to know more about the town in which the story takes place.
I was hooked throughout the book and definitely was entertained by J.D. Stroub. I can’t wait to read another one by her, there are so many possibilities. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I have mixed feelings about this book…the amount of material in this book was amazing. It was just SO much in such a short amount of time; I felt overwhelmed from time to time. It was definitely dark with dealing on witches, demons, Nephelim, drinking blood, etc. Just when I was on a happy book streak…The story starts with a girl named Savannah who has been caged in her parents home. Her mom and dad had started out seemingly normal, but their thirst for power and hunger for more pushed them in the dark witchcraft. In order to sate their hunger they would often times perform dark magic on Savannah. You sure you wanna continue reading? It’s not a happy book.She manages to run away and finds a safe haven with a coven of witches who do not delve into dark or evil witchcraft. There she meets Maye, a kind woman who takes her in as her own daughter, and Ash, Maye’s son who is a year or two older than Savannah. Time progresses and Savannah starts to heal but still carries emotional scars and is afraid to let people into her life.This book had SO much information regarding witches, dark arts, demons, etc, it just seemed all thrown in there at the same time. The book alternated between Savannah, Ash, and Liam and it was not a seamless transition. Events would occur to Savannah while you were reading Liam’s point of view and you would think you missed a chapter of a book somewhere because you never read about the event and end up confused. I know I read fast, but I couldn’t have missed that many events and be THAT confused! I couldn’t fall in love with the characters and the ending was CRAZY! When I say crazy…I don’t mean shocking. It literally makes you want to go “what was the author smoking when she wrote that?” I think if the author would have lengthened the book out, took her time explaining things, and cleaned up the grammar errors/indention errors/word errors…it would have been a decent book. I’m trying to do this as nice as possible!! I just … *shrug*…couldn’t get into it and really didn’t love it. I wanted to.I’m sorry it’s not a “happy dance” review. I feel bad publishing a negative review…I almost didn’t want to do the review, but with the good ones come some bad ones. Maybe it just wasn’t my “cup of tea”.
