Are journey starts with Camille Hart and her struggle to leave behind an abusive past and dysfunctional family to start anew in Louisiana. Camille’s character she so easy to relate to. So many woman go through what Camille goes through on a daily basis (of course minus the supernatural aspects) and you can’t help but feel the pain and fears that she faces. Camille is very passionate and loving to a fault because when she falls she falls full force which is her weakness, but she is stronger than what she gives herself credit for. In the beginning she travels to Paris for her birthday alone to do some thinking. Where she meets Gavin and they have coffee and she finds herself drawn to him but can not figure out why and she needs up telling him about her life, and then she goes back home to Seattle where she decides to escape her abusive relationship and dysfunctional family and moves to Louisiana where she meets and falls for Andrew which in turns puts her back into a abusive relationship to where to turns to Hoodoo Voodoo to get out of the relationship with several failed attempts. One day at work she runs into Gavin the guy she meet in Paris and from there them seem to pick up like it was just yesterday. This is where the story takes a turn and the vampires come into play Camille finds out about them. Ok guys can’t give any good spoilers all I will tell you is don’t wait go get your copy of Amaranth today. Rachael’s character are so solid and she gives wonderful description not to mention the world she creates for them it is fantastic.

When I decide how much I liked or loved reading a book I pay the most attention to the ending. The ending of Amaranth is an exception because, even though it ends with the slip of a big revelation in a casual conversation, it caused me to jump up and down whining that it ended too soon.Rachael Wade wrote an incredible story filled with amazing, realistic characters. Camille was vulnerable from her past and trying to make a new life for herself - she did but not neccessarily in the way she wanted. I admired this character for taking the time to work through the bad situations surrounding her and learning to forgive herself and others. Camille's relationship with Gavin was adorable. They were so devoted and made strong characters. The change of perspective in the middle of the story was not expected but it fit nicely with the progression of the story. The next book in The Resistance Trilogy is definitely going to be something to look forward to!

I really and truly loved this book! It was so different from what I usually read in the fantasy genre.I liked the main character Camille Hart. She was insecure and vulnerable through most of the book which wasn’t a bad thing. The main reason being that Camille was a victim in an abusive relationship with her boyfriend Andrew; she is trying to find herself through all the chaos. I also enjoyed the Side characters a little more to tell the truth especially Camille’s best friend Audrey. She is what I would call a true friend because she has tried to help Camille get out of her boyfriend’s abusive ways.At the beginning I was so wrapped up in Camille’s story that I totally forgot that this was book was supposed to have some fantasy and paranormal elements. So when the fantasy elements came into play I was blown away!As Camille tries to break away from her abusive boyfriend who continues to stalk her and won’t take no for an answer she meets Gavin Devereaux. He is dark and handsome and only has eyes for Camille. As Gavin and Camille’s relationship continues to grow things become more supernatural when Gavin tells Camille that he is a vampire as well her best friend Audrey. Then things get really interesting when the rest of the supernatural beings are introduced and boy there are a lot of twist and turns from then on. The story really takes off and there’s a huge amount of romance and action to satisfy my needs! I really loved Joel’s character he was super sweet and hot! This book will keep you guessing till the very end! Rachael Wade really took her time with all the characters and I loved how you couldn’t tell this was going to be a paranormal read in the beginning and then when the fantasy came it was amazing! I Loved Loved the amazing twist at the end of how all the characters are connected it was really shocking and I wanted to read more! This book totally took me by surprise and its hard to believe this is her first book!Recommend to: Twilight and Evermore(but way better than Evermore )

Intent on outrunning her abusive past, Camille has decided to set up new roots in the beautiful state of Louisiana. It’s lore and intrigue draws her in and she soon feels at home amongst the people there. Yet she can never forget that wonderful man she came across while vacationing in Paris. Unknowingly spiraling into another abusive relationship, Camille is determined to get out of it, once and for all.Yet she never imagined Andrew would make it so difficult to get out of it. He’s intent on claiming her completely and will not allow anyone to get close to her. Until Gavin enters the scene, of course. It’s then that Andrew’s petty jealousy’s come out to play.Thwarting her ex-boyfriend’s attempts to end her life at every turn, Camille finds it within herself to fight back completely. She refuses to allow him the upper hand and tells herself she will not fall into his traps ever again. When Gavin’s true nature is accidentally exposed, she realizes that the legends surrounding vampires are actually real. These supernatural beings really do exist. As she begins to wonder what she’s gotten herself into, she takes matters into her own hands and decides to help Gavin every step of the way. Her love for him makes this possible as she never felt anything quite like what she feels for Gavin for anyone else before. As the enemy’s forces draw ever closer, the couple is determined to set things straight and band together in hopes of achieving the goals they’ve set forth. Yet they never imagined that the secrets of the past would come back to haunt them in the long run.I absolutely loved this book. Absolutely loved the vampire angle on this one. I think Rachael did beautifully in building the world around her characters. The topic of being in an abusive relationship is something anyone can relate to and she did a remarkable job in drawing out Camille’s thoughts and feelings as well as her insecurities. I’m looking forward to what’s coming next in this series.

Read from January 05 to 08, 2012OverviewCamille has finally taken a step toward breaking away from her abusive relationship and dysfunctional family. A trip to Paris, where she has always longed to go, research for a book she longs to write (but has not even told her best about), and a "special" coat she spent way too much on, but it makes her feel happy and in control. It's here in Paris that she has a chance encounter with Gavin Devereaux. He somehow can tell she's searching for something and recommends that she move to Paris. This is too much of a leap for Camille, and while she is drawn to Gavin, she wanders through Paris on her own without ever contacting him again. She is, however, inspired by his suggestion...A year and a half later, Camille is now living in Southern Louisiana. She has "improved" her life by leaving Seattle, is attending a university, and working at a local bookstore; at the same time, she has just traded one abusive relationship for another. The Hoodoo influences in the area have lead her to attempt to work spells and rituals herself to banish her newest, and worst, abuser yet. But nothing seems to work! She is still trying to rid herself of Andrew when her best friend finally visits for the first time from Seattle, and Gavin appears at the local bookstore. Still drawn to him, but without Paris to distract her, will she find what she has looked for in his arms? Despite what she may, or may not have been looking for, she finds herself drawn into a world she never knew existed: Amaranth, an exile world for vampires. Soon she must decide what path to follow and what price she is willing to pay. For all paths require a sacrifice. What I ThoughtI've never been this conflicted about a book before. I've waited a full 24 hours after finishing it, hoping that time and distance would clear up my thoughts and resolve my opinion, but to no avail. I so badly wanted to like this book, not that I dislike it... The best way I can describe what I think is to lay out the pros and cons. My overall rating fluctuates between 3 and 4 ♥'s. I can seem MANY people liking this book despite my ambivalence.Pros: The characters are vivid, the description is impeccable, even the cover is so lovely. It is written very well, and one can't help but want to read the next in the series to find out just what happens. She really builds and entirely new world, with an interesting take on vampire "mythology". The main male lead, Gavin, is most definitely swoon-worthy. And I simply loved the small nods to Twilight and Johnny Deep (*sighs*).Cons: Part of who Camille is, reads (to me) as a standard relationship abuse victim. She seems to define herself by the bad males she has paired herself with in the past. Granted, some of her "current" victim behavior is supernaturally enhanced... but enhanced or not it's there. She's a victim at heart, in my opinion, and I just don't like victims. Yes, she did take steps to break away from abuse but she seemed stuck in a cycle she was doomed to repeat no matter what steps she took. And her choices that she makes! It's been a while that I've read a book where I so badly wanted to reach through those pages and smack the main character (in this case, Camille,) around. ALOT! Because of these reasons, I never connected with her character. And her relationship with Gavin, while he is swoon-worthy, seemed to have that "instant love- just add kiss" syndrome. Maybe I've read too many books recently using this approach, but I wanted to really see more "falling in love". Maybe I've just become too jaded to "buy" what that syndrome seems to be selling to so many books. Additionally, the "blurb" of the book gives out far more spoilers than I would have given, had I written it.It really is a book I can see so many people reading and enjoying; I know all readers do not have the same hang-ups that I do. Most likely, I will read the next because I want to know where the story is going to go- and hope- that Camille redeems herself as a character in my eyes. But on the other hand, I will also likely never read it again. I "erred" on the forgiving side for actual stars to appear on the overall review- but my heart is still not sold on 4 stars. There are still times that I want to just be evil and give it 3.

First and foremost, congrats to the book’s designer, it’s beautiful and eye-catching…(clap..clap…:D)The storyline is interesting… especially Gavin’s middle name, Deveraux.. I love French… the first setting of the book too is breathtaking… where else would someone plot a romance story…---Paris…:D and of course Louisiana become vibrant and alive with the author’s description.Another thing that made me curious, as to why the boys always bring them back before midnight…why, oh why?... you’ll find it out if you read the book…I just couldn’t give everything away…lol…The book talked about what women constantly face especially in relationship, how some continually experience violence from their supposedly protectors and lovers. It’s nice that Camille somehow finds it in her heart that everything was too much and that she should stand for herself and leaves that guy. It’s a different take on vampire stuffs..another conflict.. It seems vampires have other abilities too,,..they don’t only suck blood, also dreams, desire and hope too.. wow! Amaranth seems to be a wonderful place…and I can’t help but think about how Gavin and Camille end up, would they live as humans or as vampires…I wish too that Gabe and Audrey would be expanded in the story.. or maybe that Ms. Wade could write their own story..(just me and my overly-reactive imaginings…lol..)The first meeting of the characters are unforgettable… it’s simply a wonderful coincidence…lol.. The characters are lovable and real.. you could relate to them easily…At first I think the story is slow-paced, but when it got to the 2nd up to the last part, I find myself engulfed with too much actions, revelations, and unconditional love the characters have for each other. The end part of the book blow me away.. it’s too much..actions here and there…I have never been engrossed in a story and then it left me off the hook… OMG! What else could this book do to me..:DTalk of a real cliffhanger….. I hate the last part, especially when it keeps telling me that I couldn’t stay put until I read the next book --The Gates lol… I’ll definitely be looking and begging for this one…. Highly recommended!

Camille is trying to make a new life away from the fear and abuse. She seemed to repeat the pattern of choosing abusive men until she met Gavin and his friend Gabe. They introduce her to a new world where she learns not to fear. I can't wait for The Gates to be released so I can continue the journey.

This book was simply amazing. One of my favorites I have read this year. Not only was it a great vampire novel, but it also showed that women can overcome domestic violence. I loved how Camille was strong enough to back out of not only one abusive relationship, but two. Camille was without a doubt my favorite character. She was a bad ass in the way she always stood up for herself and never showed any fear, even when facing Samira, the evil ruler of Amaranth. I wish that the author would have given the reader more of a back story on Audrey and Gabe, but that might happen in the next book. The story left off on a cliffhanger. It made me very excited to learn what happens next. I can't wait for book two, The Gates to be released.

Can this book be as wonderful and enchanting as its beautiful cover? Why yes, it most certainly can! :)We follow Camille as she tries to escape an abusive past and make a new life for herself in Louisiana, but she has no idea what she’s in for when she meets the handsome and charming Gavin. Not only does he look familiar but he has an other-worldly aura about him. As Camille gets to know Gavin and his best friend Gabe, she is introduced to a world she never thought existed. Camille is a woman after my own heart. She is emotional and damaged but at the same time she is incredibly smart and stronger than she realizes. I love a light and fun read as much as the next girl but Wade has the talent to introduce us to a new and mystical paranormal world while confronting important issues like physical and emotional abuse. This is a hard thing to do without making the book sound like a public service announcement, but the author managed to pull it off as well as give you a story every vampire lover is going to want to read! Filled with strong characters, fight scenes, humor and of course hunky vampires, this is one of my new favs! Mix in some revenge, an impulsive, love struck main character and a portal only open under the Crescent moon, and you are ready for Amaranth, a land of exile for Vampires who want to become human again. Once through Amaranth’s gates you can’t return to the human world and live under the rule of Samira, a ruthless witch turned vampire. When Gavin sets off to save the people of Amaranth and himself from his vampiric nature, Camille is convinced it’s a suicide mission and tries to save him. Along with a few friends, they must try to get out of Amaranth without dying first.I managed to read this book in one sitting. Not because it was short but because it was so good! I love the idea of Amaranth, giving vampires an out if they wish to become human again. I’ve heard some say this seems far fetched but come on, it’s magic! Anything can happen. One thing I loved most was Camille and the others reactions to situations. I found the emotions and dialog to be the way I would react in the same situation. I’ve read so many books where the characters would whine when they shouldn’t, be calm when I feel the situation is upsetting and altogether miss what seems like the big picture, but Wade seemed to really think out the characters and put herself in their shoes. Amaranth contains all the elements I look for in a great paranormal novel and I’m glad I came across it. I’m excited to read the next books in the trilogy and hope you choose to follow Camille and Gavin’s story!
