    Ninja Collection - Kenneth Guthrie

    NINJA 1: VILLAGE GANGSTER

    THE NINJA DANCE

Kreal stood on top of the tree. His team had been tasked with taking the small village and stealing the weapon that they prized so much.

He whistled a small tune to Ko below him. Ko whistle back. He understood the message. Ko had prepared the traps and everything was ready.

Kreal pulled out a shuriken from his pack at his side. He was a master of the ninja arts and knew secrets that others didn't. He focused his mind on the symbol he needed. Underneath his black uniform on the right-hand side his chest started to burn as the glyph there started to heat up.

He pulled back his arm and threw the now burning weapon at the village. It flew straight ahead and he saw a few of the people look up. It split.

A thousand shards of metal flew down on the people below. Each shard expanded and increased to the size of the original weapon.

The citizens of the town ran to their homes or were cut down by the hot shards. He noted three men in the middle pull weapons and parry the shards aside. Other ninja. This town had gold to spare.

He signaled to Ko and they sprung forward. Kreal followed behind Ko as they leapt from branch to branch. The edge of the forest raced up to them and they flew into the air over the small wooden houses on the outside the village.

They landed on a roof and Shen landed next to them. The citizens of the village were running in the opposite direction. Kreal pumped his hands out giving signals to the others. They flashed for a moment and were gone.

Kreal stood on the roof and waited. He would buy as much time as he could for the other two to find the item they were here for and perhaps some of that gold.

Kreal, Kreal, Kreal, a lazy slurring voice came from behind him.

Zou, it's been too long, he said with a slight smile.

Zou ignored him. Kreal could hear him pacing.

Kreal, why do you cause me some many problems? Don't you ever learn?

Kreal let him talk. Take as long as you like, he thought.

Wasn't it just last week at that small village that you interrupted me? Don't you have any respect for your superiors?

Zou was good, but not that good.

Well, don't you? Zou was starting to get angry.

I respect strong people, Kreal said.

The implication was clear. The pacing stopped and a big hooked sword came around to sit next to Kreal's face.

Hmmm... you say that, but I know inside you are shaking in fear. You should just give up and die, Zou said sharply.

    I don't think so.

Zou spun around behind him and brought the sword around to cut out in a 3/4 spin. Kreal fell flat to the roof and dodged the small blades that flew at him from a roof nearby. It was never a fair fight with Zou.

Kreal pulled a small blade from the roof and threw it up into the air. He focused on a circular glyph on his stomach. He was gone in a puff of smoke when the hooked blade came down on the place he had been lying.

That was close, he thought, Zou must have been practicing. He looked up and saw a foot coming down to collide with his face. He hadn't anticipated that. The foot smashed down on his lightly armored helmet and left a dent as he flew downward and smashed into the concrete.

He spat out a little blood as his insides screamed and he bit into his gums. Ouch, he thought as another barrage of knives shot out at him.

He threw the shuriken in his hand in front of him and concentrated again. His chest started to burn and he had trouble breathing. He was using too much of his power.

The blades were knocked away by a shower of steel that shredded up the ninja coming down on him from the air. A mutilated corpse fell to the ground beside him.

Another round of knives flew at him and he pushed up on one hand and flipped up to spring sideways into a house. Zou was waiting.

The blade cut into him a little before his small sword slowed its movement.

Got you, fool, Zou yelled cheerfully.

Kreal kicked him in the side of the leg and elbowed him in the face as his leg bent and he came down to waist level. His smile disappeared immediately.

You're motivated today, Zou. How much are they paying you?

Zou wiped the blood from his mouth and slashed his blade upwards and around. The blade moved quickly and nearly cut Kreal's face in half.

Kreal pulled a knife and threw it at Zou's chest. Zou cut the knife in two and came at Kreal. There was a moment when he didn't think he would be fast enough, but the small glyph burned and he disappeared in a burst of smoke. Zou travelled through the smoke and looked to his rear as Kreal came forward slightly disorientated to take him in the side with half a knife.

It wasn't meant to be. A hail of dozens of knives came through the roof of the hut and fell around Kreal as he spun his blade above his head to stop them from dropping him to the ground.

If I ever figure out who that is I'm going to have to offer him a job, Kreal thought
