    PREFACE

    When traveling around the country interacting with family, business associates and seminar attendees, the task is made more burdensome when having to eat out while away from home. My wife and I practically have to go camping, because no place is safe to eat. It would be easy for me to share many ways and techniques used to avoid certain food traps. It would make for a good book on how to adjust on moment’s notice when impromptu situations arise when you are asked to eat with people you don’t want to offend. What may be of equal interest is how to avoid the new high-tech means and processes by which food is being degenerated out of the definition of food, and into something else for which there may not be a name; yet this book aims at something closer to home: educating the people you love so they can not only live longer but enjoy a quality of life worth living. Who do you know actually wants to suffer with diabetes, organ failure or live in a bed, chair or as a vegetable? Sure, they may live long, but is it really living. Many are resorting to suicide, with or with assistance.

    I was traveling in the mid-west around the middle of the summer of 2001. It was very taxing, because I was on business, and as a result of two-family funerals back-to-back, I had to visit family longer than I expected or intended.

    My grandfather was one that had died. He died from cancer, whereas, he had developed a little under 100 tumors throughout his body. It had gotten to the point where the variety of foods cooked for him was primarily pork. He would only drink coffee and eat pork. Close family members would only cook pork for him over the years and this went on for a long time, until he began feeling pain when attempting to urinate. After being forced to go to a hospital, he was diagnosed with what was thought to be simply prostate cancer, but upon further examination, not only were all the other tumors detected, but the cancer had eaten all the way into his bones. It had gotten to the bone and was eating him up from the inside out.

    The reason I am sharing this instance is because of the pride my aunts seem to exhibit in him living as long as he did have eaten as much pork as he had. It seemed like this was a proof or an endorsement of sorts to defend their pork consumption against me, given that I don’t eat it. They try to respect me, but I can tell it’s purely a mutual tolerance. I didn’t make the hog, nor the poison inherently therein. It wasn’t I who made up any truths about its dangers, it was Elijah Muhammad who got it from God, from whom I got it. To take it a step further, before Elijah was born, God’s other prophets, before raising Elijah, said the same thing through the Bible of the Christians. Therefore, is it me they are angry with or God Himself?

    Many people, including my family, have a long-standing false notion that not eating pork is a Muslim or Jewish thing only and that to be Christian means that
