      Jack looked at the woman hanging from the tree in the half light given off by the burning piece of wood. His blood boiled. He was going to kill these bastards for this.

      BANDITS ON THE FARM

      Jack waited. There would be an opportunity and he would take it. He would kill these bandits and take back what they had taken from him. He gripped his gun. It wouldn’t be long now.

      THE FARM

      The bandits snuck to the top of the hill behind their leader. The farmer in the distance didn't see them as they watched him working the farm, his big oxen dragging the hoe through the soil.

      Did you see that luscious whore?

      One of the men laughed and made a rude gesture.

      She looks like she misses the hand of a strong man.

      The men laughed together quietly.

      Their leader in his blue pointed hat put up his hand. They all fell silent immediately. They knew not to talk out of turn.

      They watched. Their leader was looking down at the small farm house like a hawk considering its prey. His hunger was strong; He would want to be first with the woman.

      He put his hand up and gestured them forward. The men stood up quietly and started to sneak down the hill towards the house. Today they would enjoy some pleasure after a long dry spell.

      JACK LENTON

      Jack walked behind Mary his big cow. The planting season was coming and he wanted the soil to be in top condition for when it arrived.

      Mary trudged along and Jack guided her down the lanes, turning the soil and revealing the fresh soil underneath. Jack loved the land. He had been many other things in his life, but farming gave him the most pleasure. He didn't know what it was, maybe a combination of the fresh air or just working the land, either way this was his dream and he was living it now.

      He pulled Mary up and stopped to feed her a little of the feed he had in his little satchel. She would need this strength if she was to finish today's work.

      He brought the rope around and jammed a shovel into the ground. Tying the rope to it, he left her to her rest and walked back towards the house.
