    Meet the Author

Introduction - Welcome to The ePubWealth Program

By joining The ePubWealth Program, I know that you are serious about becoming a top ePub author and my job is to make sure you achieve this goal. I am not going to hold anything back; this program is a continuing work-in-progress and it will keep any participant quite busy as you watch the money come pouring in as a result of your efforts.

Please listen very closely; it pays to diversify, your income streams!!!

DO NOT PUT ALL OF YOUR EGGS IN ONE BASKET!

Especially when it comes to Kindle because we have already witnessed one Kindle slap and you can bet more are coming. Read the following and you will see why:

    http://www.fastcompany.com/1810943/amazon-piracy-copyright-kindle-sopa-pipa

Like Google, Amazon controls the purse strings if you let them. DON’T LET THEM; yes, play the game while the game is in your favor – maximize everything Kindle offers now while it’s hot and profitable before it changes just like what happened to Google AdWords & AdSense - and hope for the best but plan for the worst.

As I said, there are tons of other ePublishers out there and you probably know a few of them – Barnes & Noble’s PubIt, Lulu.com, Smashwords, etc. I have provided a Directory of ePublishers at the end of this program and it is going to boggle your mind with just how many there are too!! However, with that said this guidebook will concentrate only on the platforms that pay the most and are the best ones that I use daily.

There are many topics I am going to address in the ebook; many of which you had better listen to in order to make the kind of income everyone is touting and although there are some good programs out there that teach you how to publish on Kindle (I buy every one of them just to see what they are saying) almost all of them leave out important parts or don’t address some topics that are important but leave the authors to figure them out. And even some are giving out information that is just plain wrong.

Example: I listened to a 2-hour webinar where a very well-known Kindle publisher was saying that it is best to ONLY use the Google Keyword AdWords tool to find LOW competition keywords for your Kindle books. WRONG! And it is not just wrong; it is so wrong too. You use both the Google Keyword AdWords Tool as well as the Kindle Search tool. I will show you how to find the keywords to use when you publish your Kindle books and it ain’t by using the Google AdWords Keyword Tool ONLY!!!

So, first we are going to tear apart Kindle and look at every aspect of publishing on this amazing platform. But I have a very provocative statement to make and here it is,

Don’t get too comfortable publishing ebooks for eReaders.

The eReader devices are on their way out and tablets are replacing them because it is the marketplace that decides what it wants and people want multi-functional devices.

Begin now to start thinking about publishing on tablets. Start positioning yourself now while tablet publishing is in its infancy. Amazon is hot at work on a new tablet and all the major manufacturers are doing the same. Here is a good article to back up my premise:

    http://www.wired.com/magazine/2010/03/ff_tablet_levy/

Furthermore, do not neglect audiobooks as wells as paperback books. Amazon owns Audible.com and CreateSpace.com and both cater to audiobooks as well as paperbacks respectively. But for now, to demonstrate the digital marketplace you will be selling to, let’s look at some statistics. I am a statistics freak and candidly, I track a good many things because I need a visual representation in order to evaluate anything. I compiled these statistics about ebooks while reading about the Amazon Kindle and the Apple iPad the other day for a project I am working on and thought I’d share this with my readers:

    Ebooks

<> Ebook sales grew 177% last year.

<> 53% of those who buy ebook readers state that they now read more books than they did before.

<> 51% of e-reader owners increased their purchases of e-books in the past year.

    <> 176% Increase in U.S. electronic-book sales in 2009.

<> 1.8% Decrease in U.S. book sales in 2009 from a year earlier.

<> 86% of e-reader owners read on their device more than once a week.

<> 51% of e-reader owners read on their device on a daily basis.

<> eReaders are now owned by one in 10 Americans. 12% of Americans plan to buy one within 6 months.

<> 50% of kids say they want to read an ebook. 1/3 of children say they would read more with ebooks.

    The Kindle

<> There are 700,000 titles in the Kindle library.

<> Amazon sells 143 ebooks for every 100 hardcover books they sell…and that includes hardcovers not available in ebook format.

<> The average Amazon customer buys 3.3x as many books after buying a Kindle than before they had one.

<> Amazon controls 62% (some say up to 80%) of the entire ebook market and rising.

<> Kindles allow users to highlight passages, make notes and share either directly to Facebook and Twitter.

<> Amazon Kindle available on Kindles, iPhones, iPads, Androids, Macs, PCs and the web.

<> The Kindle book, Secrets of the Terracotta Warriors was offered by Brian Lawrenson for free through Amazon. It received 4000 downloads the first day. Sales on other titles by Lawrenson went up 200% the next month.

    The iPad

<> iPad controls 16% of the eReader market and rising.

<> iPad users downloaded more than 5 million ebooks in the first 65 days after it debuted.

<> iPad sales are expected to be 15.6 million this year and 46 million next year.

    The Nook

<> Nook (Barnes & Noble) controls 20% of the market.

    iPad vs Kindle

    <> iPad users: 65% male, 63% under 35, 39% make more than $80k.

    <> Kindle users: 52% male, 47% under 35, 44% make more than $80k.

<> iPads and Kindles will be available through Best Buy, Staples, Target, Walmart (iPad only) and other retailers by year’s end. Source: Various.

<> 44% of people prefer Kindle on the iPad over the iBookstore.

<> One author, who sells ebooks, stated she sold 6,315 titles through Amazon, while iBookstore only sold 16 copies.

Amazon launched in 1995. Here is a picture of their original office…whoa!

Here is their current Seattle headquarters…

Chapter 1 - EPUB means ePublishing

The world grows smaller everyday; there is no such thing as a cyber-border when it comes to transacting commerce. The Internet is truly a global community and ripe for selling goods and services everywhere it is available…and selling books is a big market!

EPubWealth is all about the ePublishing of content. Content is king and this isn’t going to change. People seek information everyday from myriads of sources. This seeking of information must be satisfied first prior to any buying decision being made. Publishers/authors that satisfy this need for information make sales…big sales!

Electronic publication (EPUB) is the term used for people using eReader reading devices such as Amazon's Kindle or the Barnes & Noble Nook. EPUB has spawned a whole new industry and a whole new way of reading books. Using eReader devices - these devices take what used to be available only on paper - and bring it into the age of electronic devices. EPUB and eReaders create a virtual book that you can enjoy wherever you go and gives a person the ability to carry his/her own library with them. EPUB is an open book standard used in electronic publishing
