In This Moment: An Alcoholic's Path To Recovery

About this ebook
"Alcohol is not playing games with you. It is not out just to take your money, make you sing or dance better. It's out to take your life. If you don't end it, alcohol WILL eventually kill you, or worse yet, cause you to kill someone else." -James Evers
After a long and difficult struggle with alcohol and gambling addiction, James Evers shares the key elements that helped him find the courage to climb out of his abyss and find his way back to the world of the living. He reflects on the cause and effect theory and how he used it to make the necessary changes to his life. In making these changes, James found another key to opening doors to his sobriety. This key is explained in this book as "living in the moment," and James shows how this key unlocked the door to the present, how it keeps the past on the other side of the door, only to be opened to remember the good times or to review past mistakes and the lessons learned from them. This key also opened the door to hopes and dreams for the future.
It is James' wish that anyone who is suffering from the horrors of addiction will find some answers in this book and use his information to help find a way back to a good life. By helping others, his cycle will be fulfilled."Anyone who is suffering from the horrors of addiction will find some answers in this book.

A Personal Message from James Evers
There are so many tragic stories of lives destroyed by addictions to alcohol and gambling. It is my hope that my story and thoughts will help someone to stop drinking or gambling. If only one life is saved or changed through this book, I thank God and give Him the glory for allowing me to survive my addiction. If your addiction is drugs, you may find this book helpful as well, but a strong recommendation is to go to NA—Narcotics Anonymous. God bless and keep you.
Introduction
When we take a look back over the course of our lives, we are able to recall many pleasant memories, when life seemed at its best for us. Many moments stand out above the rest when we felt happy, complete, and fulfilled. These events, such as graduation, marriage, having a child—these times we recall so vividly because we were able to capture the moment.
These moments allowed us to escape the gravitational pull of life’s burdens and heartaches, allowing us to achieve an orbit of overwhelming joy and complete clarity. We were able to obtain an understanding of what life is and to have an appreciation for the endless possibilities that were before us—beyond what we experience on a daily basis.
During these moments, we were able to let go of anything negative from our past or anything that was currently amiss in our lives, and we were able to capture the moment. It was life happening now, in this moment. We reaped the sensational rewards and soul-restoring promises that life can be great if we only reach for it, accept it, and allow it to blossom from something ordinary into something extraordinary. We were able to rise above the mountains of doubt and fear that sometimes stand in the way of our happiness.
The truth is, there are probably only a handful of these life-changing, major events in our lives that we are able to recall. Only a few highlights of a few days stand out with so much promise. What about the hundreds, even thousands of in between days? What makes us feel happy on a daily basis?
What negative influences are we allowing in our lives to steal away so many of these moments? If we are allowing alcohol, gambling, or drug abuse to steal them away, we are not living, we are simply existing. Any addiction that hurts us emotionally, physically, financially, or our family life must be addressed in order for us to reclaim our life, our
