About this ebook

The Bible is not just a book that is to be read like any other. It cannot be skimmed through or treated in a casual manner,
it is the Word of God. It has such a depth of meaning, such a storehouse of God’s grace that it must be read carefully, reflected on, chewed over and digested. Then—just when we think that we have got all that we can from a particular passage...the Holy Spirit shows us something more...for it’s a living word!
What follows are some reflections on a few verses from God’s Word. But reflections are only seen on the surface—there is so much more if we will take the time to look below the surface

UNCONDITIONAL LOVE

This is how God showed His love among us; He sent His one and only Son into the world that we should live through Him. This is love: not that we (first) loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. (1 John 4: 9,10)

Anyone who believes and says that Jesus is the Son of God has God living in him, and he is living with God. We know how much God loves us because we have felt His love and because we believe Him when He tells us that He loves us dearly. God is love and anyone who lives in love is living with God and God is living in him. (1 John 4:15-16 LNT)

When we love it is often conditional, but God always loves us, it is who He is!

Some of us may feel so much more loving when springtime arrives after what seemed like a long, cold winter. Somehow, with new life in the gardens and countryside, with a little more sunshine and blue skies, one feels better; we have a little more energy.

When people treat us well, when they are kind to us and appreciate us. When our children behave or do things that make us especially proud of them. When we are in good health and there is money in the bank. When things go well for us—then we are able to love. Our love is so often conditional it seems, so dependent upon what happens to us.

Subconsciously, we can think the same way about God’s love for us.

When we experience prolonged periods of sickness, when the money starts to run out. When we have relational problems with others. When we can no longer sense God’s presence and prayer appears to remain unanswered, then we begin to doubt God’s love for us.

But God’s love is unconditional. He doesn’t only love us when we do good things, His whole nature, His character, is love! God always loves us, it's who He is!
