    INTRODUCTION

    Doing God’s will may expose you to the danger of being thrown into the fire of affliction. Many believers try to avoid this by compromising with the world and resorting to ungodly means to acquire material wealth and worldly positions. People go through times of pain, loss and destruction when they are trying to glorify God with their lives. These tough times can be compared to being thrown into the fire. Going through fire is when you are engulfed by trials that threaten to destroy you and those who are associated with you.

    The Book of Daniel features some gifted and devout young Hebrew men. Amongst those taken into Babylonian captivity, they were some of the best. Their names were Daniel meaning God is my judge whom the Babylonians named Belteshazzar, Hananiah meaning Jah has favoured who was named Shadrach, Mishael meaning who is what God is who was named Meshach and Azariah meaning Jah has helped who was named Abednego.

    6 Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:

    7 Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego.

    8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

    Daniel 1:6-8

    These four young men were intelligent and feared God. When they were examined after a period of training, they were ten times better than the magicians and astrologers of the kingdom of Babylon.

    18 Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.

    19 And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king.

    20 And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better
