About this ebook
Nothing ever good happens late at night. But strange things happen, and questionable decisions are made. "Late at Night" is a collection of short stories, and many of them take us into the night, when drinking, sex, strange ideas, and poor judgement have their way. Full of humor and desperation, the seven stories here take us all the way from the street to the bar to the bedroom to morning and beyond.

About The Author
Four Hundred A Month
Erik is a cocksure young prick, come to the capital after the civil war is officially downgraded to an internal struggle. He has an eye on attending the gymnasium, maybe the university when he’s ready, but since the left-wingers nationalized the family farm and the right-wingers sold it off cheap to foreign multinationals, he doesn’t have much money. He’s got a pocketful of devalued currency and has to find a place to stay on the cheap.
After a few nights in a public shelter full of cripples and toothless widows, he finds an affordable apartment in the core, furnished and everything. He moves in, and on the second night he finds out he’s sharing the place with an imp.
The imp waddles out from behind the couch while Erik is plunking away at his typewriter. What the hell you doing, boy, writing your will? You make this much noise all the time, someone’s gonna put a knife in you.
Erik looks over his shoulder and sees the imp and jumps backwards off his chair, knocking his supper dishes onto the floor. The imp laughs.
Get up, boy! Fix me a plate of whatever crap that was you just ate. You don’t have any booze, do you? First rule, boy, when you come home at night you better bring a bottle. Get some tobacco, too. Nothing fancy. What you waiting for? Get moving!
Erik gets up, cleans his glasses and has a second look. Yup, it’s an imp all right. He’s about a foot and a half tall with a fat little gut and a balding skull. He’s reddish greenish brown in color, scratching his nuts through patchy pants. Erik cleans up the mess on the floor and goes to the kitchen. He scoops a blop of hash onto the
