About this ebook

A Psychologist with one foot in the supernatural and a displaced New York Cop with too much to lose must work together to solve an outbreak of unexplained coma cases in sunny southern California. Patients are filling New Hope Hospital to the brim, and no one knows what is causing the phenomenon until Lisa McNabb is called in to assess the coma cases and using her innate Psychic abilities she learns that the victims have been attacked by something dark and terrible, something that has ripped the souls from them and is still feeding on them. Alive but not, the victims return to their abandoned bodies once every four hours for a matter of seconds, just long enough to keep the hope that they will survive alive. When Gil Sherman joins Lisa on the hunt for the mysterious attacker they find that his sister Melissa is just one of the many victims. It is a race then to find the attacker before he strikes again and find a way to free the suffering souls tainted by touch of the Neo-Nightbreed.

Author

David S. Bayne

I am an Industrial Safety specialist who spends his down time writing novels and blogging. I live in Massachusetts with my lovely wife and three wonderful sons, and two very fat and lazy house cats.I am a former competitive All-Natural Bodybuilder and Powerlifter who was also very active in various Martial Arts systems and formats over the years and I have all the scars to go along with them.I guess I'd call myself a "Pulp Fiction" writer, meaning that I'm not out to write the next great American Novel - I just write fun and exciting stories and hope that you, the reader, are as entertained in reading them as I was in creating them.

THE SWEATING YOUNG WOMAN was running hard, pushing her limits to see how far she could go. She had always loved a good run, even back when it used to be just a jog, but ever since she had learned how to work through the so called wall, how to focus through the pain and get that extra bit of speed and endurance which had made her the captain of her High School track team, it had become a passion, an obsession. She ran every night to the tune of six miles exactly. In fact, the first thing that Melissa Sherman had done upon arriving at her sunny Southern California college, even before unpacking and settling in, was to map out her six mile course. The weather was one of the main reasons she had chosen to come out the west coast in the first place, warm and wonderful by comparison to her dreary home back in up-state New York.

It was late October and the leaves would be falling from the trees back home and the winds would have that cool crispness that always managed to send a chill down the spine no matter how bundled up she was. Here though, it was sunny and warm, it was always sunny and warm, and she had grown to love it.

    It was perfect running weather.

Melissa had stayed with her six mile course faithfully for four years without a day missed, even though she was no longer competing in track, she still felt the need to stay in shape. She was after all going to be a Doctor, and she had to present a healthy appearance and lead by example. Plus her nightly run was her way of relieving stress, of clearing her mind and staying in touch with her body.

Some nights she was tired and would go slower, almost a power-walk, and other nights she would set a faster pace. Tonight, however, she was running as fast as her long legs would carry her. Her last test had taken longer than she had thought and she had started her run late, and now she was sure she would not make it back to the campus before the main gates were locked for the evening.

She was only a few blocks away when first the sounds came to her, footsteps, someone was running
