About this ebook
The next three days went by with no trouble, and the ship was now in the Pacific Ocean.
It was Davidメs plan to visit some of the remote little Islands to stop and take the passengers ashore and let them sunbathe or skin dive or do what they had a mind to do.
David planned to stay overnight at three Islands this would give the passengerメs time to enjoy the Islandメs.
It was on the third night after the ship had moved into the Pacific Ocean.
David was sitting in his chair on the bridge when he spotted the Radio operator coming up the steps towards the bridge.
David turned to the sailor who was on the wheel of the ship and said. ム'Oh no I hate it when Jack comes along with a sheet of paper in his hand; it usually means trouble for me.メ
ムAye Captain, but it might only be a message for one of the passenger's.メ
ムWell we will soon find out.メ
The Radio operator opened the bridge door and saw the look on Davidメs face and said. ムI know sir but itメs my job to bring you the news if itメs bad or good.メ
ムI know Jack so what is it.メ
ムWell sir itメs a weather forecast and itメs not good.メ
ムOk Jack whatメs the worst.メ
ムWell sir we have a hurricane heading straight for us, it will hit us about ten tonight and sir according to the forecast itメs a very bad one.メ
David said. ムThatメs all we need, "well we had better be ready for it, on your way back to the Radio shack Jack go tell Mr Wells to come see me, then you had better go back and keep glued to your Radio, and let me know if thereメs any changes.メ
ムAye sir.メ
About five minutes later James came onto the bridge and said.メ
ムHi David, and I know Jack told me.メ

CHAPTER 1
The liner The Mermaid was on a cruise in the Pacific Ocean. On board were ten couples who had won the trip in a crossword competition. The Captain’s name was David Ford. He was sitting in his map room which was situated just off the bridge.
He was reading about the ten couples because as yet he had been too busy planning his journey to the Pacific from the British Isles.
The first couple he read about being Miss Walker and Miss Walton they came from the city of Leeds and they were unmarried but he noted that they were both sixty years plus and if the ship hit bad weather then he would have to take special care of these two ladies.
Then he read about the next on his list Thomas and Sophie Wilson these two were married but these two were also of a good age Thomas was sixty two and his wife was sixty another two he would have to have a word with Helen, Helen was the onboard Doctor come Nurse come Baby sitter she was one of the crew that he could not do without.
Next he read about couple number three, Jack and Jane Wade. These were on their honeymoon the Captain had spoken to them for a few minutes just when the couple came on board he had spoken to them because they were on their Honeymoon both were twenty five years old.
Now he read number four their names were William Swanson and Mary Taylor they were not married but in this day and age no one took any notice their ages were William twenty nine and Mary was just twenty.
Then came Adam and Cook these were married and their age was in the thirties.
Thomas and Mildred Grimes this was also a married couple in their forties.
Next to read about being Christopher and Linda Watkins these two were in their fifties but had just been married two months and this was a delayed honeymoon.
Next on his list was James Dalton and Elizabeth Winner these two he had his doubts about their age according to James he was twenty one and the girl was twenty but David thought that they were both a lot younger than that but he let it go thinking that their parents must know all about this trip.
Then came the pair he thought he would have trouble from it was General George and wife Harriet Dalton and they had put down their age as seventy.
And the last couple he thought would be good to have along if there was any trouble was Richard and wife Rose now he was a well built man and David thought that if he was in a fight he would be hard to beat now their age was in the thirties.
David put the sheet down and said aloud to the seaman in the bridge ‘Well that’s done Jack but I still have to meet them all tonight at my table it’s the one night I don’t look forward to on these trips the night of the Captains dinner.’
‘Well sir you are the Captain and you are the lucky one to get to dine with all the passengers ha, ha.’
‘By the way Jack you have been on deck with some of the passengers I have seen you talking to them what do you make of them.’
‘Well sir I only talk to them when they ask me questions about the trip, but apart from that I don’t see any trouble except maybe for one.’
‘Oh and who might that be.’
‘Well sir he has not done any wrong but he can hit the bottle a bit strong.’
‘Ok Jack now come on who is it.’
‘Well as I say sir he has done no wrong as yet but, well his name is Mr Dalton.’
‘Ok Jack but until he does something wrong then we need not worry, but what is it that makes you think he is trouble.’
‘Well sir one night last week I was walking along the port side and I passed his cabin it was late on and he must have had a belly full because he was shouting at the girl and she was crying, Well sir I was just about to knock on the door to tell him to give over when she the girl I mean came out and ran towards your quarters, I thought that she was going to tell you about him but she must have changed her mind.’
‘Ok Jack but if it happens again come and get me I don’t want any trouble on board.’
Dave then left the bridge and started to walk along the port side and he stopped and lent against the ship’s rail just outside of the Daltons cabin but all was quiet. He decided to walk to the bar and see what was going on there he thought that maybe the Daltons would be there drinking, but when he popped his head around the door there was only a couple drinking and he had no idea who they were, but by the description that Jack was giving him they were not the Daltons.
He then went down to the galley and called in to speak to the cooks Billy the head cook was sitting in his little office making out the menu for the following day when he saw David he said. ‘Hi sir what brings you here.’
‘Well Billy I’m just killing time you know what I’m like on my dinner night.’
‘Yes but I’ll swap you places you come do the cooking and I’ll sit up there drinking wine and having my dinner served to me.’
‘I suppose you’re right.’
‘I don’t suppose I’m right I know I’m right.’
CHAPTER 2
The time came for David to go to the dinning hall and sit with the passengers at first he knew that it would be the same old thing women talking about their lovely grand children, or men saying how good they are at the golf club, but as the night goes on a David has had a couple of drinks its not too bad then.
David was having a conversion with Doctor Helen when he noticed a man who was sitting with a pretty woman was starting to shout a little and David thought that this must be the one every trip had one on board.
Helen had seen David look at the man and she said. ‘Yes David that is I think going to be your headache his name is William Swanson and the lady with him is Mary Taylor, I have already had to give her some ointment for a bruise that she said she got when she slipped on the steps up to the upper deck, but I don’t think that is the case I think maybe Mr Swanson had something to do with it.’
‘Yes well Helen if it happens again come and let me know and I’ll have a word with Mr Swanson there’s no way I want them to behave like that in front of the other passengers it spoils the trip for them all and you know me Helen I wont stand for it, and another thing is I don’t like bullies and if a man hits a woman then in my eyes he is a bully.’
Helen said. ‘Ok David don’t let it spoil our night lets get a drink and we will see if he starts to be a good
