Prologue
What are we going to do Luke?
She asked in terror as they looked towards the screen, several large objects were screaming loudly as they descended towards the colony. The alarms were ringing loudly non-stop as she looked around the room at all the petrified faces of the people around her.
None of them were certain that they were going to survive the impact…
Chapter 1
Isis Sadler awoke early in the morning, her eyes fluttered open, and she started at the ceiling as the light streamed in through the closed blinds on her window. She turned her head to the phone display on the night table beside her. The time read: 07:00 hours with the weather report scrolling below it. It was Sunday, June 1st, 2035.
At least it’s going to be warm and sunny
she thought as she sat up in bed, stretched out her arms and legs, then threw the covers off her, and got out of bed. Her feet hit the cold hardwood floor as she got up; she turned around and gingerly flipped the blinds up the window. The light from the newly rising sun flooded into her bedroom. She then pushed a button on the bottom of the bed and it retracted into the wall.
Isis was thrilled to greet the day, because today was the day that she was going to embark on a journey unlike no other, into the unknown, the apprehension and anxiety almost rivaled her excitement, today she was going to go to Mars. She was going to help start a new Martin colony.
She had been waiting 10 years for this day, a couple of private corporations and governments had been in development of a new mode of transportation that they had been working on for over three decades, and now it had passed all of the inspections and tests required to make it safe for human use. They called it a unity Bridge
and it was designed to open an artificial wormhole from one point in space to the other.
The technology was based on the Einstein-Rosen bridge theory, a shortcut through space-time.
Isis was 30 years old, a computer programmer by trade and had lived in New Edentia on the west coast of Canada for her entire life.
She was about 5"5 tall, white ivory skin tone and light blonde shoulder length hair, she stood in her bedroom bursting with fear and excitement as she stood by her window looking at the mirror as she got dressed, and a large smile crossed her lips. She picked up her phone form the night table and put it in her pants pocket.
As soon as she was done getting dressed, she hurried from the room. All her belongs, sparse and frugal as they were, had already been packed and stored at the transport site waiting for her arrival.
She walked over to the fridge and opened it, inside was a small bottle of milk and some yogurt, Well I can’t leave without breakfast.
She thought to herself.
She lived alone in a 1 bedroom apartment, and this would be the last day that she would see it again.
Isis picked up her keys hanging on the door, took one long look around her small…empty apartment, then put on her shoes and walked out the door, locking it behind her.
She walked down the long, narrow hallway, her feet barely making a sound as they passed over the dark brown carpet. She could see the slits of light coming from the closed apartment doors as she made her way down the hallway to the stairwell. She opened the door to the stairwell and then descended the three flights of stairs to the apartment buildings main entrance, walked out the door, hearing it close and lock behind her.
She removed the mobile phone from her pants pocket and glanced at the time: 07:15.
I’m making good time.
Isis thought. She crossed the parking lot to her car as the morning sun shone down on her; it was a small ruby red convert-able and was first water fueled car she had purchased.
Isis put her hand in her front left pocket and removed her keys, she hit the red button on the center of the key holder and the car beeped as the doors unlocked and the engine started.
She then go into the car and closed the door behind her.
Welcome, Isis.
The computer greeted her; as she sat down and strapped her body in to the driver’s seat.
The current time is: 07:16 hours and the temperature is 25 degrees Celsius, what is your destination today?
Araxis 1
Isis said, trying to hold back her immense joy at being 1 of 30 candidates to join the first colony on the Martian frontier.
Affirmative
The computer responded. Would you like to enable Auto-drive?
Yes.
Isis said with a chipper tone to her voice.
Isis had to arrive at the
