About this ebook

Breyden hadn’t expected to spend his life on the run as the most hunted man in the universe. But, a desire for truth drove him to a horrifying discovery about the supposedly “perfect society” in which he lived. This information drove his efforts to expose the truth about the People’s Government and pushed him into the role of rebel leader and criminal.

During Breyden’s attempt to retrieve the evidence hidden at his home, that would prove the People’s Government murdered an innocent woman and then covered it up, his father was waiting. His effort to seize this information will endanger everyone associated with Breyden and will lead him to become a slave to the very system he opposes.

Trying to save his best friend, Breyden and the friend are captured and sent to an outlying world where they will literally become slaves and have to fight for their lives. These gladiatorial contests will help the government carry out their foul plans in their insatiable quest for power.

    About the Author

Breyden struggled to speak. It was as if his tongue had fastened itself to the roof of his mouth. The shock of seeing his father only six feet away stole his will to move. His father didn’t appear to have a weapon and, even though Breyden knew he should just make a break for it, his muscles wouldn’t respond.

Did you find what you were looking for? his father spat with venom. A vein pulsed in his father’s temple and he clenched his fists at his sides.

Breyden opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. His stomach did a back flip and he felt the blood drain from his face. His mind raced for a solution to deal with his father, a way to flee. He shouldn’t be here!

"Well, boy? Did you find what you need to bring your family to ruin, and to destroy the perfect society?" Spittle sprayed out of his father’s mouth as he hissed through his teeth.

No. You must have removed it. Breyden’s eyes searched for possible escape routes.

"You’re lying. You found what you came for. So, I must destroy you for the Sub you are." His father stepped towards him.

    Breyden stepped back.

I thought you were the big man? ‘Most wanted’ in the universe, and now you’re afraid? His father mocked him. You look like you want to cry for your mama. Well, she doesn’t want you anymore, boy. I suggest you give me what you put in your back pocket, and maybe I’ll take it easy on you.

No. Breyden’s lips moved but hardly any sound came out.

What’s that? His father turned his ear to the side as if to listen better.

NO! Breyden roared, loud and clear.

Have it your way. His father launched himself forward, throwing an array of kicks and punches.

Breyden scrambled to block the onslaught of his father’s rage. He deflected most of the blows, but several managed to penetrate his defenses. An iron-like fist slammed against his jaw, which sent him backpedaling to remain on his feet.

Big man! Big man! His father continued to pound Breyden with everything he had. More and more punches rammed into Breyden’s midsection.

Breyden seemed to have lost his will to focus and defend himself. His father’s taunts and constant bombardment kept Breyden from functioning properly. He couldn’t remember how to fight. With blood running down his nose and chin, his head swam dizzily.

"I can’t believe a Sub like you managed to stay alive so long. You’re pathetic. You’re weak. It’s a good thing you left. My son wouldn’t have been such a wimp."

As Breyden staggered backwards, he tried to counter with a right hook. His father caught his arm and twisted it up behind his back. Once his father had Breyden’s back, he locked his arms around Breyden’s neck in a choke hold.

Fight! Fight! Jenny’s voice echoed inside Breyden’s mind.

A spark ignited inside of Breyden, and anger swelled within him. Breyden swung his elbow backwards, jamming it into his father’s ribs. Again! Again! Again! Breyden’s father coughed and jerked with each sharp blow, but he refused to let go. The edges of Breyden’s vision started to grow black, and his strikes held less power. He was falling into a pool of darkness.

He managed to catch himself on his hands before he hit the ground. His body trembled and his head spun with a nauseating effect, but he remained conscious. He inhaled several deep breaths, realizing he was free from his father’s choke hold.

You waited too long to join the fight, my friend, Sampson chided him, starting to secure Breyden’s unconscious father’s arms and legs. You are better than your dad, but you will not defeat him until you get over your fear of him.

Breyden coughed. I don’t know why that is.

He’s your father, or at least he used to be. You must separate your connection to him. Only then will you be able to triumph over him. Sampson finished binding Breyden’s father and then helped Breyden to his feet.

    Thanks for stepping in.

Aren’t you glad you brought me? Sampson’s lips spread into a smirk.

    Yes!

So, what do we do with our captive? Sampson motioned to the man.

He goes with us. It’s time we started collecting prisoners. Let’s use his car. The police will soon discover we are here. Breyden reached down and seized his father behind the shoulders.

Why not just teleport out of here right now? Sampson volunteered.

Because we need to get James. They’ll put the pieces together. He’ll be shipped off to Centalpha 6. Breyden dragged his father until Sampson picked up his father’s feet to help him.

They carried Mr. Pry around the forested side of his house to keep out of sight. They stopped at the edge of the house before moving into the front yard, where they laid Breyden’s father on the ground.

I’ll go get the keys and pull the hovercar out of the garage, Breyden stated.

Wait! Sampson stopped him. Why don’t I teleport back with him now, that way we won’t be loaded down with his dead weight. You hurry to your friends and get out of here. Once the word is out, this place is going to be a hornets’ nest.

Good idea. Breyden took the letter out of his back pocket and handed it to Sampson. Keep this safe.

"You got it! And sweet! Sampson took the evidence and tucked it into a pocket on the inside of his jacket. Just don’t get caught or this evidence won’t be worth much. We need you to corroborate the story. People will have seen you on the news, and Shaun should be looking for the news footage on the main."

Be careful with him. He’s extremely well trained and dangerous. Breyden nodded toward his father as Sampson took out his radio.

Sampson called in his request for Shaun to teleport him with Breyden’s father at the same time. Yes, I can give you a little time to try and blend us in with normal teleportation traffic. Just make it quick!

Are you going to be all right? Breyden asked.

Sampson retrieved a revolver out of his jacket. Can he stop bullets? By the way, you better clean the blood off of your face, you’ll only attract even more attention. He tossed Breyden a water bottle to do the job.

Thanks, and see you soon. Breyden zipped around the back of the house and through the back door, all the time cleaning up as best he could. He found the keys to the family hovercraft and his father’s cell phone in a basket on a hall table by the front door.

Breyden didn’t wait to see if Shaun had teleported Sampson and his father back to Flagstaff. He sped out of the driveway and flew away from the neighborhood. He drove the same route back to James’s house that had brought him to his parents. The sun began to set, resulting in the appearance of street lights and headlights. Breyden used his father’s military radio to monitor the police frequency. As of yet, his being in the city was still unknown, but chatter about no contact with the officers he had subdued, indicated he needed to hurry. Be home now! Please be home!

The sight of an unfamiliar hovercraft parked in his friend’s driveway put Breyden’s senses on alert. Using his father’s cell phone, Breyden called James’s old home number. It rang twice before being answered.

    Colonel Pry, sir? James responded.

    James, it’s me. Breyden!

Yes, sir, I understand, James continued to act as if it was Breyden’s father on the phone.

I’m outside. You need to grab whatever you can carry and come with me. Breyden wiped his forehead with his sleeve and landed the hovercraft in the street outside James’s house.

Are you sure, sir? James voice carried a note of panic.

"I came to see you earlier and had to immobilize two police officers. One of them recognized me. The police are searching for them at
