To some people, thanking God is a cliché’, to others and myself, it is a way of life. I thank God for the people He put in my life to help mold me into a better man. This is more of an acknowledgement than a bio, because I would not be who I am without the people and circumstances that shaped me. Yes, I thank God and my mother who believed in me when I doubted myself. Thank you April, my elevator miracle, who told me to stop procrastinating, Cheryl told me to forgive, Teresa told me to move on and Cherry to live life to the fullest. Harold and Bobby were always there even when we disagreed on so many levels. Friends from childhood to adulthood, we carried our ups and downs, losses and gains, with us. To Momma Bennett and my sister Judy, who were always a part of my life, but have been positive influences since I lost my own mother. I can’t forget my former lunch buddies who are remarkable women, Lila, Vivian, Niecy, Evelyn, D, Princess and the Golden Girls. Rest in peace, Lila. There are so many people to thank even those who rejected me because they gave me a stronger desire to overcome future obstacles. These are no coincidences, just divine acts of God.

A Part of Things - Ejothian Litman

    1st Section

    A Part of Things

It’s too late after it happened, but

you have been doing the same thing all of the time.

You see, but don’t believe, know,

    but still doubt,

    thirst, but cannot quench.

You can offer but no one will take it.

    No one you can trust.

Always looking for respect, that’s you,

but never able to give any.

Do you actually think that you do not need anyone for

    anything?

Well, my friend, I must disappoint you,

but you are a part of

something much larger and grander than you can imagine.

    You are

a part of this live play

and it’s a role that will require lots of improvising.

    A part which

    you will be living

for the rest of your life.

    AS WE GROW OLDER

    As we grow older,

we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to

    ever let you down,

    probably will.

You will have your heart broken

more than once and it hurts every time.

    You'll break hearts too, so

    remember

how it felt when yours was broken.

    You'll fight with your best

    friend.

You'll blame a new love for things an old one did.

    You'll cry

because time is passing too fast,

and you'll eventually lose someone you

    love.

    So take too many pictures,

    laugh too much,

    and love like you've never

    been hurt

because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of

    happiness you'll never get back.

Don't be afraid that your life will end,

be afraid that it will never begin.

    Grayceful

You looked so stunning in your slinky, black dress

    and beautiful, silver, gray hair!

Curvy, shapely brown legs and a sweet smile to match!

Black stilettos making that back arch.

    Woman, you were so sexy.

    Back up, wait a minute!

Did Cupid shoot me with a dart?

You were so graceful that night.

    So classy and kind.

You moved as if you floated,

    I had a wonderful time.

I wasn’t expecting how good you looked.

We were doing this for a mutual friend.

    After tonight

I didn’t think I would ever see you again.

I’m glad we stayed in touch,

You never realized how much that meant to me.

You have always been there for me, when

    she should have been.

    Don’t ever dye your hair,

    Don’t change its tone.

Wear it long or short, up or down,

Stay the beautiful woman that you are.

You are a real, sincere friend.

    So loving and sharing,

    Thanks for the wonderful times.

    Thanks, pretty lady, for caring.

    NO GOODBYES

Last words spoken were said in pain.

We accused each other of playing games.

We are no longer there for each other gains.

Our love will never be the same.

Mean things were spat like projectiles.

I’m sick of you in rapid fire.

    This said, that said.

    The tones are getting higher.

    How can we say this?

    How does it sound?

    Was there another way?

    Our faithlessness is made profound.

    We don’t want each other.

    We’re not content.

    We can’t pray together.

    Neither of us will relent.

    We actually believed we

    could work this out.

After all, we had similar bouts.

    Real love is unconditional

    Not on the condition of.

    We believed in us.

    But not this time,

    words cut like a sword.

Once they’re out of the mouth,

    emotions get sore.

    Time to get out.

    Time to move on.

    Get out of my house!

    Don’t worry! I’m gone!

    Good-bye!

    No Way To Say Goodbye:

Or I Must Have Been Her Rebound

It’s been years since I’ve seen her. And in all that time we never said another word to each other since May 28, 2009. She was once my best friend and wife, now she’s a Congresswoman. We never had any children, you know. They might hinder professional careers and we wouldn’t want to be selfish, would we? Well, its 10 years later, and evidently, nothing seemed to have slowed her down. She still looks beautiful! But, then again, she always was. Yeah, I missed her for a while, it took some time, but I did get over it. I always wanted her to come back in my arms once more. But life doesn’t always have happy endings. Let me take you back to where it all started.

    Mike’s Side

Wake up, can you help me, she said, I need a washer and dryer. I raised my sleepy head from the desk to the direction where the voice came from. My eyes were still blurry so I said, ask one of those guys over there to help you, they’ll be glad to. As I was putting my head back down to rest when she reached over the counter and tapped me on the shoulder and said, Let’s go, I don’t want them to help me, you help me. Reluctantly I got up and walked around the counter to help her find a washer and dryer. Yes, I worked part-time at a full appliance store where some of the state’s best appliances were sold by some of the state’s best people!

I liked her from the beginning, she was good to look at and easy to talk to. But, I wasn’t looking for love or romance. I had just left a relationship. Coincidentally, so had she. She had just bought a house and needed the appliances. She had a light green pantsuit on with a dark green shirt. She was tall, curvy, had black short cut hair and one of the prettiest smiles, I’ve seen in a long time. What a nice looking woman! Well, we were supposed to be talking about her washer and dryer but we wound up talking about whatever came to mind.

I was 37 at the time, a divorcee and working full-time with the ABC board. She thought I was 30. No I don’t have a baby face; I just look younger than my age. Good genes, I guess! She was 22. Her name was Margaret and she knew some of the people that I worked with. So I called up one of them to confirm it and get more info on her. I still made another call to a co-worker. Yes, she was a big time realtor and had a reputation of being a smart, independent woman. She was tops in her field and had a few guys to fail in their attempt to get next to her! Did I mention all of this happened on a weekend? I must have been struck by lightening! I always get struck by lightening and like lightening, love comes and goes.

Well, she got a washer and dryer and made arrangements for her yard man to pick it up. She left and came back in about 15 minutes in a different outfit and car! I don’t know if she was trying to impress me or what. The first car she drove in was a Cadi CTS and the second, a Jag Van Plas. I was more impressed with her second outfit. It was a long, dark green skirt with a split up to her thighs with a matching jacket. Now, that’s what I’m talking about! I’m a leg man! I like big legs and they must be shapely and firm almost athletic. She had them. Material wealth doesn’t do it for me. I’ve seen people’s attitudes change towards others and about themselves. I’ve also seen them lose it all. I know I’ve been there. You sometimes forget how generous God is and forget to thank Him. He reminds you who gave it to you, sometimes gently, sometimes harshly.

Maggie and I connected that day and my life began to change. Looking back, I wished I hadn’t told her that she called my name too many times. That at times, it seemed that she was smothering me. She would call me throughout the day and when we were together she was always right next to me. I didn’t realize how lucky I was to have someone love me so much! I just didn’t think that her love was real. That love lasted six
