      A Sunrise Meeting is the culmination of a thinking process, a process to help ensure that your business runs like clockwork. This book will guide you through a series of practical steps that will help you to define and develop a Sunrise Meeting approach for your own business.

      This book offers you a way to bring rigour and discipline into your workplace. It will help you craft a series of short, punchy, meetings if you so desire. Many businesses use a handful of effective meetings to help them drive both the performance and the improvement of their own business. Before you start this journey however, please reflect on what a business that ‘runs like clockwork’ could be like.

      Firstly, a business that runs like clockwork experiences fewer surprises. Tasks run to a schedule and you can set your watch by them. These routines keep the entire business working in the way it was intended. It is my experience that disciplined routines can make a huge impact on the way a business performs. Routines need to be implemented from the position of properly understanding how your business processes are meant to work and this is the first port of call in this book. I have seen businesses that operate in ‘organised chaos’ move to progressively improving levels of performance via Sunrise Meetings. A Sunrise Meeting is a great way to capture the effective routines in your business and keep them in place.

      A business that is working the way it was intended has a firm grip on the standards it needs to work to. These aren’t just external accreditations but the ways of working that keep the business going. It is vital that you keep the necessary standards in place inside your business. This will help to keep the business stable, so that you and your staff can then go and undertake more exciting projects. If you don't have this stability then you run a high risk of watching your business fall over when you do move on to something else. Again, a Sunrise Meeting can be a great vehicle for helping you to keep the appropriate standards in place.

      Also, the Sunrise Meeting approach can help you to increase the performance of your business. For example, if the various processes and functions in your business start on time they are also more likely to finish on time. This means that your business could see an improvement in efficiency, profit and customer satisfaction levels. In fact, I have numerous clients that have used this single strategy alone (starting processes on time) and won new business based on their superior delivery performance.

      The Sunrise Meeting approach is one way to bring together the necessary routines, standards and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that can help you to run your business effectively. For most businesses I have worked with, taking this approach has helped them to realise a higher level of effectiveness and productivity.
