About this ebook
Learn about subtraction with the San Diego Zoo's famous baby pandas in Panda Math
Hua Mei was the first giant panda cub born in the United States that survived more than a few days. She was born at the San Diego Zoo, and four years later her mother had another baby, Mei Sheng. Hua Mei and her brother, Mei Sheng, spend their days climbing on logs, lounging in trees, and eating bamboo.
A lot of things the pandas do can be thought of in terms of subtraction. Young readers follow the famous cubs as they grow from tiny infants to big, bouncing pandas and learn about subtraction along the way.

Reviews for Panda Math
10 ratings2 reviews
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Panda Math tells the story of two panda bears and their mother from the San Diego zoo. On the right page, the book gives facts about pandas and tells about Mei Sheng as she grows in the zoo. On the left page, there are math problems created from panda facts. I like the idea the book has, but unless the child reading the book has a solid grasp on the math concepts presented, I feel like the child could get confused. There was explanations for how to solve the math problems, but they were wordy and could seem overwhelming. I would like to read this book with a class and use the examples presented for guided practice.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I have never read a book that was organized in the same way as this book. You are able to read the entire book without ever reading the left pages. However, if you want to learn about subtraction, then reading the left pages would help with this. This book is made for a very young audience, however I feel an adult may be needed to help a child read this book. The pictures are very large and cute and grab the attention of the reader on each page. I would not recommend this book to anyone unless it is for a school teacher who is teaching their classroom about subtraction. On the left pages, there are very detailed pictures about how subtraction is used and how it works. All the subtraction examples go along with the story on the right pages.
