    ABOUT US

    INTRODUCTION

God has provided prayer as a way for us to seek Him for all of our needs. Prayer is an essential part of our daily life and relationship with God. Without prayer, we lack the power to pursue God and carry out our divine destinies.

God’s power is released through our prayers. Prayer is the key that unlocks doors, raises the sick, and brings provision. The Bible says in James 5:16 that the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. Through prayer, we can see lives changed, and we can bring God's plans for us, our families, our cities and even our nation, into reality. Prayer can keep us from imminent danger and counteract threats or physical harm others may have planned against us. When we are at our lowest point, prayer can help us to build our confidence in God and develop the faith to believe that He can change our circumstances.

During our prayer time, it is important to ask the Holy Spirit to help us pray effectively. Without the Holy Spirit’s guidance, we will not know how to pray according to God’s perfect will. Romans 8: 26-27 (NLT) says:

And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.

So, the key to effective prayer is to rely on the Holy Spirit’s help and guidance. God desires to give us what we need, and when our requests are in line with His will, He will give us what we asked for:

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him (1 John 5:14-15).

We must also remember that God is always on watch and available at any time we need Him. Psalm 121:3 says, the Lord, Who keeps us shall neither slumber nor sleep. When used in the Bible, the word, watch means to rouse or to awaken. This word implies the need to pay attention and stay mentally alert for any potential threat. This is why Jesus urged His disciples on the night before His crucifixion to watch and pray. In other words, Jesus was warning His disciples to be spiritually and mentally alert because evil was awaiting them (Mark 14:38). That same warning applies to Christians who are Jesus’ present day disciples. If we don’t remain spiritually vigilant and keep our eyes focused on God, we can easily succumb to the schemes and attacks of the Enemy. But, we can be thankful that we are not in this battle alone. God has given us His Holy Spirit to guide us and help us to do the things He wants us to do. Also, Jesus Christ, who sits at the right hand of God, His Father, is interceding for us, according to Romans 8:34. So, with the Holy Spirit guiding us and Jesus Christ interceding for us, we cannot help but to be victorious in our prayer lives.

    WHAT IS A WATCH?

Whenever we pray, there is a specific watch or interval of time connected to it. In the Bible, a watch was a period of time in which solders remained posted on duty. The ancient Jews, Greeks and Romans divided the night into military watches, while the Egyptians divided the night into hours. The Bible highlights different events that took place during these watches. There were three watches in the Old Testament:

    First Watch (6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.)

Arise, cry out in the night: in the beginning of the watches pour out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord: lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children that faint for hunger in the top of every street (Lamentations 2:19, KJV).

    Middle Watch (10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.)

So Gideon, and the hundred men that were with him, came unto the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch; and they had but newly set
