Needing to get away from her hometown of Denver to avoid the stares and nosy neighbors and so she can start afresh, she leaves her father behind and flees to her family's long-neglected cabin high in the Rockies on the shore of quiet, quaint Tuck-In Lake. It's the only special place she can think of that doesn't harbor memories of her husband of ten years. But alongside other developments, like a renewed though strained relationship with God, Abby finds that her beloved childhood summer home is not the kind of escape she had expected. While trying her best to find out who she is without Jesse and just why he was taken away from her, Abby befriends Jack Howell, her new loner neighbor and furniture maker. His questionable choices have combined forces with his wrathful ex-wife to keep him from meeting his now four-year-old daughter. As Jack's friendship with Abby transforms into something deeper thanks to an unforeseen chemistry, he repeatedly reminds himself that Abby is nowhere near ready for someone new.
