Chapter 1 Birth of a New Technology
Prologue
"Great! I’m now walking on the sidewalk seeing the beautiful lawn in front of houses.
It’s a nice walk and I feel very fresh. I can’t think this is inside the computer. This is almost real. Good job, Takano. "
Thank you, Mogami. I’m pleased to hear that.
In the end of August, 2020, E.V.W. computer technology was born in Japan for the first time in human history.
Although this technology is widely known to people nowadays as E.V.W., this is a dream technology that people can enter the virtual world which is made by a computer.
Of course, people in the real world can not enter the virtual world, no matter how the science advances. But you can feel as if you were standing and walking in the virtual world and seeing the scenery in 3 dimensions as you do in the real world. Over there, you are like the one of character of a computer game, so you can see the scenery around you by the character’s eyes in the virtual world and you can move as the character moves.
You are not a computer operator any more because you are in the computer. You can walk and enjoy the virtual world as enjoyable as you are in the real world.
That’s why this technology was named as E.V.W. (Entering the Virtual World)
.
This is the extreme virtual technology that you can put your spirit in virtual while you put your body in real.
Superspace Tech
, a venture company
1
E.V.W. was developed by the company called Superspace Tech that was a very small venture company founded in August, 2017 in Japan. It had only 6 workers including 4 engineers, one administrative assistant and one president. Takano was a president and Mogami was the investor who had almost 100 percent shares of this company. Mogami invested as much as 5 million dollars to this small company. But perhaps this amount of money was not big burden for him because he was the owner and president of Big Sun Game Corporation, which was one of the world famous game-makers. So, three engineers and one administrative assistant were transferred temporarily from Big Sun Game after they were rigorously examined by Mogami and Takano.
Takano and I had been working at the same company and quit there together. He was my boss at the company. Takano was very unique. He had his own philosophy and policy in his management. I liked his character and the way of management. So, when I heard he would quit his job and worked at Superspace Tech as the president, I asked him to hire me at Superspace Tech.
Takano told me that I must give a careful consideration since Superspace Tech was a small venture company that was not as stable as the company which we were working. But he finally accepted me after he knew my resolution was firm.
I thought this was just as a small change as many people often did in a lifetime. And I, of course, never ever thought that this small change was going to put me in the massive wave of the world revolution.
2
I remember that I was a bit nervous at the first day of Superspace Tech. It was the grand opening day and all company members were scheduled to gather at the office. Even so, I didn’t have much information about Superspace Tech members except for Takano.
The office was located near Big Sun Game. The building was, of course, much smaller than the one of Big Sun Game, but it looked quite new. Superspace Tech was at 5th floor of 7-story building. When I got off the elevator at 5th floor, I could easily find the entrance door, which was across the elevator hall. There was only one entrance door on this level, so I thought Superspace Tech occupied all area of this floor.
When I opened the door, I saw a reception counter ahead in a small room. There was a small table with 4 chairs near the right side wall for the visitors and that’s all furniture there. Before I reached the reception counter, a woman suddenly appeared from the door on the wall behind the counter and said,
Hi, Misaki. I’m Noda, administrative assistant. Good to meet you.
Well, I, I’m Misaki. Glad to meet you, too.
I couldn’t make the smooth greeting because of her sudden appearance. It surprised at me so much.
Ha, hah, you are surprised at my sudden appearance, aren’t you? The secret is that camera.
Miss Noda said with a smile and pointed at the camera which was set on the wall above the door. She explained that there was nobody in this counter usually but she could know it on her desk if someone came.
Well, this is your ID and the key of that entrance door.
Noda was pointing at another door with an electronic lock at the left side of the room and gave me a photo ID with key.
When I entered, all other members had already been there. The floor of Superspace Tech was very spacious. Working desk area was only one third of total area and the rest of the floor was empty at that time. It was like a temporary office.
The setting of office furniture was unique. There was a huge rectangle meeting desk at the center and the working desks were put like as the letter of U
at the perimeter of the meeting desk with open end towards the sides. One U
was put at each of the shorter side and two U
s were put at each of the longer side, so six U
s were put in total. Later I knew this setting was made by the instruction of Takano. He had an idea that every worker of Superspace Tech must share the information as much as possible, so he liked this arrangement. Actually this allowed us to have a meeting very easily. When Takano wanted to have a meeting, he just shouted. O.K. everybody, turn towards the meeting desk and let’s start a meeting.
When I approached Takano, he was talking with other 3 engineers.
