    CHAPTER ONE

FLORIAN TURNED in slow circles, feeling the rain on her face. Josh and Clay ran out of the spaceship and joined in on the fun. The trio couldn’t remember the last time they ran around in the rain. It certainly was the first time on this planet.

    Their jubilation would be short-lived.

The three castaways were about to discover the first secret hidden deep inside the Piper. The spaceship they had adopted for their own; the one they knew will keep them safe at night.

The shape of the Piper was round. From the air, she didn’t appear large. However, the interior of the ship seemed massive. What the young crew didn’t know; something was always watching their every move.

    Could the ship be haunted?

The rain feels great, laughed Clay.

Florian squealed in delight. Being wet makes you feel alive.

Josh cut short the extended rain dance. He stood at the Piper’s main hatch watching the antics of the other two.

The wind created by the storm front finally abated, leaving the humidity high. Still, Florian and Clay ran around. The ankle length grass sloshed under their feet. The waves dumping on the sand at the beach sounded inviting.

When the clouds moved away, Florian and Clay flopped onto the grass, soaking up the sun’s rays. Florian lay prone on the wet green grass looking up at the sky. Clay lay beside her, watching her through lust filled eyes. He wanted to cradle her in his arms. Press his lips against hers. Slowly leaning sideways, at the last moment, he decided against kissing her.

Josh walked a short distance away from the Piper.

Relax, called Clay, watching him walk off. After our arrival on this planet, killing the prehistoric bird, discovering the medical facility we crashed landed near turned out to be a spaceship and now flying the ship here to this piece of paradise near the beach, we deserve a rest.

I think we should make sure the area is safe before we can totally relax. Besides, I want to begin studying the ship, explained Josh.

Clay leaned on his elbows. I feel this area is safe. We can see the beach, the mountains and the grassland. We can see anything coming for a good three to five minutes. Relax, unwind. I’m tired.

Florian stood and gave the area a three-hundred-and-sixty-degree cursory glance. I can’t see one thing wrong.

Anything could be hiding in the grass, hinted Josh.

There’s nothing around. We left the dangerous animals back in the forest, stated Clay.

They’ve been wandering around this planet for twenty years. I believe they would have multiplied substantially, said Josh.

Florian folded her arms. Don’t put a dampener on everything we’ve achieved.

I’m not. I’m saying if Clay and I aren’t careful you might die. There you go, I’ve said it.

Any one of us could die at any time, said Florian. One bad decision over something could spell the end. It doesn’t mean we can’t grab a few hours of a well-deserved rest.

I’ll feel happier after we’ve explored every square inch of this area. Maybe we can build a number of fences which will help to defend our new home? said Josh.

Clay walked up to Josh and poked him in the ribs. Josh, the trouble is, you’re too clever for your own good. All that intelligence locked inside your head is keeping you scared. Be more like me. Let the river current take you where it will. Enjoy each day as it comes. Florian is making short life goals instead of long ones. You should do the same.

Josh walked back inside the massive ship leaving Clay and Florian outside. After Florian wandered over, Clay placed his arm over her shoulder. To him, Florian looked gorgeous. Her long black hair cascading
