    CHAPTER 1

Rosemary walked up the passage at the hospital and smiled.

Oh please let me help! Congratulations Dad! Wow they are beautiful! Barry absolutely beamed. He was so proud. Barry stopped in the passage and Rosemary took one of the little carriers and walked down the passage of the hospital.

Gosh aren’t you lucky. Twins! Barry smiled as they walked out of the hospital to his car and opened the door of the four by four and put Trevor onto the back seat and strapped his car seat in. Rosemary handed Nicole to him and he strapped her in. Rosemary smiled.

Can I take a last little peek? They look so much better all clean and dressed. Barry smiled. Rosemary looked at the little ones.

Oh I am so excited for you! This is going to be quite an adjustment! Barry nodded and looked at Rosemary. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. He looked into her eyes and stared. Rosemary and Barry were both quiet for a while as they looked at each other. Rosemary cleared her throat.

Well, you know the drill. Every four hours. Are they going on the bottle or is your wife breastfeeding? Barry looked away.

    Bottle. Rosemary smiled and nodded.

Enjoy them. I know I would. Barry smiled. Rosemary hugged him and gave him a big squeeze.

Oh I am so excited for you! Barry chuckled.

Thank you for your help. Rosemary smiled and stepped aside as he closed the door.

Bye. He pulled Rosemary into his arms and held her close. He put his hand on her head and held her to his chest and closed his eyes. He just needed to hold her. Barry smiled as he looked down.

    Bye. And thank you.

Rosemary walked off smiling. Barry watched as she walked. She was so stylish in her smart suit and heels. He sighed. There was something about her that really triggered his emotions. Even though she was a total stranger she made him feel as if she was an old friend. When he had held her he was overcome with all sorts of emotions. She turned and smiled. Barry smiled and waved. She had really made an impact.

Rosemary walked over to her car and put the key in the door. Her hand was shaking. She hopped in and drove off. Her insides had been given a wakeup call. He was the most amazing looking man she had ever seen. And he had even stared. He had been watching her as she walked. Rosemary smiled to herself. She had noticed that he didn’t say much about the mother. Which was a bit strange. And where was their mother. Normally newborn babies didn’t leave the hospital without their mother. And he didn’t wear a wedding ring. Rosemary smiled to herself. He really appealed to her. The way he had held her. Rosemary grimaced as she felt her nipples harden.

She smiled as she drove. When she had delivered the twins the mother seemed to want to get the job over and done with. She wasn’t even excited when they were born. She wouldn’t even hold them or look at them. It was as if she didn’t like them. She had sensed a strange feeling in the operating theatre. It wasn’t a happy occasion. Rosemary had been more excited than their mother. Rosemary frowned. But the father hadn’t been there for their delivery. Was that his choice or the mothers? Rosemary’s thoughts veered in a totally different direction. All she could think of was him and his beautiful children.

Barry drove home with his bundles of joy. Nicky and Wayne ran out. Barry smiled.

They are home. They each took a baby and walked into the house.

Oh Barry they are beautiful. Barry smiled as he looked at them lying in their prams.

My life changed today. I have been blessed. Nicky nodded.

You sure have. Not one but two. Congratulations Dad! Barry chuckled.

You are the second person who has said that today. Nicky smiled.

When I was at the hospital this young lady helped me to carry them. I don’t know how to explain this to you Nicky. It was love at first sight. When I looked at her. Something moved. It felt as if my heart moved. Nicky smiled.

You are just emotional. The babies. Coming home. You know. Barry smiled.

It isn’t that. She did something for me. Something that I have never felt before. I wish I knew who she was.

Was she coming out of the hospital? Barry nodded.

She must have been visiting someone. She is gorgeous Nicky. If I tell you perfect then I mean it. And she fussed over them like a mother would.

    Maybe she has her own.

No. And she didn’t wear a ring either. Nicky chuckled.

Barry they look exactly like you. There isn’t even a resemblance of Hilda. Barry smiled.

That’s because they are my babies. Nicky smiled.

    They sure are!

Barry, Nicky and Wayne all fell into a set routine. They all helped out with feeds. They worked out a bit of a roster and all did something to contribute. Trevor and Nicole were happy babies. They were already two weeks old and settled. Nicole was a very quiet baby. She never cried. It was as if she kept to herself. Even though she was so small she seemed to be an introvert. She didn’t enjoy being touched by anyone other than Barry. She didn’t fuss or anything when Nicky and Wayne held her but they could feel her tense little body.

Barry sat in his car and watched the waves crashing over the rocks. It was so relaxing just to sit and watch. He believed in recharging his batteries at the end of the day. Feeding the endorphins by watching the ocean. Every day he would drive from the office and come and sit. It was his time of the day where he wasn’t interrupted. Depending on the weather, he would either hop out of his car or sit in the car. He smiled as he watched the whales. They had made their appearance overnight. It was so relaxing to watch. Barry looked around. It was always so quiet and no one seemed to take the time to come and unwind. Other than a lot of elderly folk who came to appreciate the beauty.

He watched as a beautiful woman walked past the front of his car. She was absolutely stunning. He looked again. It was the same woman that he had met at the hospital. Well, she really appealed to him. And he wasn’t mistaken. She really was beautiful. But this time she wore little glasses with a black frame. Something she hadn’t worn last time. Her hair was pulled up into a tight chignon as before. And she was dressed in another very smart suit. She had a lovely little figure. She wore a pair of sneakers with her pantyhose. Barry smiled to himself. She had obviously changed into the sneakers to come to the beach. He watched as she slowly walked down the stairs and walked on to the beach. She slowly walked as if mulling something over in her head. Barry climbed out of the car so that he could watch her. He hadn’t seen her arrive so he didn’t know which car was hers.

Barry climbed out of his car and stood and watched. He admired her. She was so small in comparison to his size. He watched as she went down on her haunches and picked up a shell. Well, he couldn’t see what it was. It could only be a shell or a stone. He watched as she stood and looked at the whales. She turned and started walking back.

Rosemary could feel his eyes on her. She had only felt that feeling once before. When she had helped the gent with his twins. She smiled to herself. Could it really be him? And he had been watching her for what seemed like ages.

Barry watched as she walked up the stairs. She looked up at him and smiled. Barry smiled. She really was beautiful. She was groomed. Not your every day average kind of woman. She looked really classy. She carried herself so well.

Barry sighed. Rosemary chuckled as she reached the top step.

Big sigh that one. How are those gorgeous babies of yours? Barry smiled proudly.

Yeah. They are settled. Two weeks old already.

And how are you Dad? Barry grinned.

I am doing well. Rosemary stopped and looked over at the ocean.

Aren’t they beautiful? Barry nodded and smiled.

They are. She smiled as she looked at him.

It sure does something for a person. Doesn’t it? Barry nodded as he looked at Rosemary staring out at the ocean.

Heavy day? Rosemary stared into the ocean and nodded. She slowly looked down and looked at her feet. Barry pulled her closer and put his arm over her shoulder and hugged her. She slipped her arm around his waist.

Why do people have to die? Barry smiled as he listened.

Well sweetheart. I guess to make space for someone else. We can’t live forever you know. We have to move over. Give someone else a chance. Rosemary nodded and leaned her head on his chest. He felt her relaxing as he held her.

    And who made that space?

    My Gran. Barry nodded.

Well, how old was Gran then? He listened carefully as she spoke into his chest.

    Eighty eight. Barry smiled.

Well, she definitely had a good life. Didn’t she? Rosemary nodded. She closed her eyes and sighed.

    I’m sorry. Barry smiled.

Don’t be. I’m not. He gently moved her in front of his body and held her close and hugged her. She smiled and looked up at Barry. He looked down at her and he slowly took possession of her mouth. Rosemary closed her eyes and responded. Her whole body went limp in his arms.

They slowly parted and Barry held her in his arms.

Don’t be sad. Gran wouldn’t want that. Rosemary nodded and started to blush. She whispered.

My mother would kill me! Barry roared with laughter.

    She would?

    Yeah. Pretty much.

Well, maybe it is a good thing that she isn’t here. Rosemary chuckled.

I guess I should be off. I don’t normally stand at the beach and steal kisses. Barry smiled.

I have to explain this to my kids. Rosemary smiled.

Grand theft kiss? He chuckled as he looked down at Rosemary.

No. Big smile Dad. Rosemary chuckled.

Am I glad I am not Dad! Barry grinned.

    Mmmmhhh! Rosemary chuckled.

    Barry looked down.

I am going to do something. Rosemary smiled.

What are you going to do?

    Kiss you.

Again? He nodded as he leaned down and kissed her. He was so gentle but the kisses were heated and sensual. They both pulled apart.

You really are a big thief. Barry smiled.

I think you are the thief.

But I didn’t steal the kiss.

No. I think you are working at stealing my heart. Rosemary smiled.

    Really? Barry nodded.

I think you are. Rosemary blushed.

    I have to go.

When will I see you again? Rosemary smiled.

    Really? Barry nodded.

Really. Rosemary couldn’t help but blush.

    I.

Barry, I don’t want to. Barry I have a family. Barry I am married. Barry I have children of my own? Rosemary smiled and giggled.

    No.

Barry I am too young for you? Rosemary smiled and stood on her tiptoes and kissed Barry. She deepened the kiss and he slowly opened his mouth as she probed against his lips with her tongue. Barry held her in his arms. His eyes closed and he savored the kiss. He savored the taste of her. The feel of her in his arms. They slowly pulled apart.

Barry stared at Rosemary. Rosemary looked at Barry. He pulled her closer and kissed her again. Barry smiled as he kissed her. He pulled away. He whispered.

I think I am dreaming. Rosemary blushed.

    Barry, I.

    Finish the sentence.

    I have to go.

    But why? Rosemary chuckled.

    Because it is getting dark.

    Truth. Rosemary smiled.

    I have a coffee date.

    With whom? Rosemary chuckled.

Are you the FBI, the CIA, or NCIS? Barry grinned.

    Just curious. Rosemary smiled.

    With my sister.

    Well that’s okay then.

You sure about that? Barry nodded.

    Where? Rosemary chuckled.

At her house. 22 Riverglade Road, West Side. Barry chuckled.

Right. And how are you getting there?

    Car. He nodded and smiled.

When am I seeing you again?

    Tomorrow? He nodded.

Do you have a number where I can contact you? Rosemary smiled and nodded.

Cell phone? He nodded. She nodded. She looked at Barry and whispered.

I have to go. Barry smiled and leaned down and kissed her again. He pulled her into his arms. Barry hugged her.

My kids are going to wonder where I am. Rosemary looked at Barry.

Are you married? He looked at Rosemary. He was so startled at the question. She stared at Barry. She whispered.

Please tell me you aren’t married. Rosemary slowly pulled herself free from his arms and turned and ran. She took her key from her pocket and hopped into her car and drove off.

Barry let out a loud groan.

    No!

    CHAPTER 2

Rosemary drove out to Laura’s. She smiled as she walked in.

    Rosemary? You okay? Rosemary nodded.

Heavy day. Rosemary sat down and smiled as Ted walked through.

So Rosemary. Are you happy with the contents of the will? Rosemary nodded.

Sure. Laura smiled. Rosemary was unnaturally quiet.

It is awful. Isn’t it? Rosemary nodded.

I did tell Mum I didn’t want anything. Laura nodded.

I am glad Mum did that though. Split everything in the middle. Rosemary nodded.

Mum should never have done that though. She sold everything off so that we would benefit. Laura smiled.

That is the way Gran wanted it. That is what Mum said. Cash will help. More than a grotty old house and junk. Rosemary nodded.

    I know. Ted smiled.

You are both a lot better off with the cash. Rosemary smiled as she drank her coffee.

    She stared into her cup.

There is something else Rosemary. And it is not the will. Something is bothering you. Rosemary smiled and shook her head.

You know. I met the most amazing man today. Laura and Ted both stared. This was a first. Rosemary had never before had a boyfriend. She didn’t even go out or date.

So tell us more. Rosemary smiled.

He is married. Not just married. But he has kids. Laura winced. Rosemary nodded.

See. That is why I don’t even bother looking. Because the good guys are all taken. Laura shook her
