- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I again have mixed feelings about a book. The beginning was a little slow but it was a great way to get to know the characters better. The second half had some great action and really was the meaty part of the book. The character development was great and the struggle Gray felt was realistic if not slightly annoying. That twist though. I really enjoyed this book, great instalment to the series, excited for the final book!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Best series ever.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Frozen is the second book in the Taken trilogy. The rebels have left the security of their mountain hideout and are headed into cold weather territory in search of another settlement that they hope will join forces with them to fight the Franconian order. I love the non-stop action and the setting changes which mix up the story lines a bit. This is another really cool alternate world that I instantly was taken in by. There is however, a love triangle thing going on in this series between three of the main characters, Gray, Emma & Bree that kind of spiced up the plot at first but now it's to the point where I really could just do without it. Gray is just too wishy-washy about the whole thing. I wish he would just pick one and be done with it or they would both just drop him and move on so we can get this whole romance side plot out of the way. LoL It's not irritating enough to keep me from finishing this series though-just a minor annoyance. I can't wait to see how the rebels, ever-growing forces stack up against the Franconians in the last book, Forged! : )
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Review courtesy of Dark Faerie TalesQuick & Dirty: Frozen was a good read full of action and suspense. Unfortunately, I had a really hard time with the love triangle, so that really hindered how much I enjoyed the story.Opening Sentence: We have been walking for two weeks. The Review:Gray escaped the Heist, but that was just the beginning. Leaving Claysoot was suppose to provide him with answers, but instead he found himself in the middle of a war. The United States tore itself apart and now clean water is a scarce commodity. The US split into two different territories the AmEast and the AmWest. They fight to control the water supplies and it has turned deadly. There is a ruthless man that rules the AmEast and he will do anything to bring his enemies down. He has come up with an idea to build the perfect army, but because he is a cruel man, a rebellion has risen up to overthrow him.Gray and his band of rebels are on their way to try and find allies. Group A was supposedly abandoned years ago with no saviors, but Gray believes differently. Out of all the test groups they were the most well stocked and provided with the highest living experience. If the rebels can convince Group A to join they may be able to use their city as a second base and finally be able to beat AmEast. But Gray has to constantly question who he can trust with the technology that the enemy possesses — anyone could be a traitor, even his closest friends.Gray is an interesting character that was hard for me to relate to at times. He is very loyal and when he believes in something he is willing to fight for it. But he is really indecisive about a lot of things and it really drove me nuts. When it came to the girls he was completely spineless. It was like he could never say no to a pretty face and he was naïve enough to not think he was leading both girls on. Even when they would plainly spell it out to him. Sadly, this made me lose a lot of respect for Gray because it made him come across as a jerk. Because of this, I had a really hard time connecting with him and his story.Bree is a very independent girl that has had a very hard life. Being heisted at 16, she has been traveling with the rebellion for almost a year now. She has a hard time letting people in and she doesn’t like to feel like she owes anyone anything. I get that she has been hurt, but I felt that the whole tough act is way overdone. She is so moody all the time that it started to really get on my nerves. With Gray she was very hot and cold and honestly, I thought she was being ridiculous. Alas, because of her moodiness and dramatic attitude, I ended up really not liking her character at all. It was hard for me to root for her and Gray because all they seemed to do was fight. I thought they brought out the worst in each other, and personally I think they are way better off just being friends. Then there is sweet Emma. I absolutely fell in love with Emma in the first book of the series. She is so caring and stayed true to herself. Yes, she obviously made some big mistakes, but I thought that she tries really hard to redeem herself. Also, she really wants to make things work with Gray even though he has been a total jerk to her. I honestly think that Emma deserves someone better then Gray, but I do think that they complement each other well. I just loved their romance from the very beginning and I hope that they end up together.I know that I have said quite a few negative things about this book, but in all honesty besides the romance this was actually a really great book. I usually don’t have a problem with love triangles, but this one really didn’t work for me at all. Maybe it was because it was a guy and two girls instead of vice versa. It made Gray come off as a jerk and both the girls seemed so fragile that they would totally break if he didn’t pick them. But with all that being said, the rest of the book was very well done. It was very fast paced and full of action. Bowman did a wonderful job weaving a story full of intrigue and suspense. There were some pretty big plot surprises that really kept the book interesting. While I didn’t quite like this book as much as Taken, I still did enjoy it, and I am looking forward to seeing what happens in the final book. I would recommend that young adult dystopian fans give this series a try, I think that they will find it interesting and unique.Notable Scene:I take a small step forward, and he pinches the blade into Emma’s neck. Blood blooms against the weapon, against her pale skin, and when she cries out in pain, I know this is not my brother. Not really. Blaine would never force me into this position. He would never hold a knife to Emma or spill even a drop of her blood/We’ve been deceived. We are not dealing with one spy; we are dealing with two.And they are Forgeries.I do the only thing I can think of: I let my arrow fly.FTC Advisory: HarperTeen provided me with a copy of Frozen. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Since I LOVED the first book sooooo much, I just knew I had to read this one. It certainly was what I expecting plus more!Plot: The plot picks up where the last book left off and boy it is intense!! There is lots of actions, plenty of mystery and the never ending drama of friends and lovers. The plot does move quite fast at times but then at some points it slows down. It gave the reader plenty of stuff to look forward to and it always kept me on my toes.Love/Friendship: GAH! This is the part that frustrated me the most but also captured me the most. In most YA books you always see the girl jumping between two guys. This time its the other way around. You have Grey who is torn between the girl who he has known his whole life and the girl who is strong enough to be at his side. I half to admit I never like the girl next door. To me she seemed to…idk Nice? Simple? Safe? Now the other girl is one I like. She is strong, confident and always truthful. I liked her because I can relate to her. It was like she was me! Whatever I thought while reading the story, she would think.Ending: The ending is pretty hard to take in but you know what? Just like Grey took his time making his decision, giving her the run around, its time for him to do the running. I smirked where I read that line cause,”I KNEW IT!” Why? Heck, I would have done the same thing. Ain’t nobody going through all the stuff just to get out through it again. This book is great! I adored it and loved how well the characters grew and learn more about their environment. I can not wait to read the next book just to see what is really happening with the cities. I’m anxious and excited to have read this book. Frozen is an excellent sequel that can not be forgotten.
