    Chapter 1: Introduction

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send? And who will go for us? And I said, Here am I. Send me!Isaiah 6:8

So you’ve decided to take a short term mission trip. You may have heard the call clearly from the Lord, as Isaiah did, or hope to grow into the next spiritual level with this step of faith. Perhaps you’re test-driving missions before you make a long term commitment, or you were just dragged into the trip by friends. Regardless of your reason for going on a short term mission, you can expect to encounter situations that will challenge and grow you, participate in surprising new experiences, and be used by God in unexpected ways. Because you are willing, He will grow His kingdom through you in ways that you could never anticipate or imagine. You’ll anticipate what might happen, but on mission trips, God often does his most powerful work in the unplanned and unexpected circumstances.

We’ve also supported many full time and short term missions over the years, and expect to in the future. Because of these experiences, we’d like to share our best ideas on preparing for your short term mission trip.

Preparations to start early: These things take time, so start with them first.

Passport and visas – Get your picture taken, fill out the forms, and submit your passport application. After you have the passport, send it with visa forms to the country’s consulate.

Vaccinations and prescriptions – Other parts of the world have exotic diseases that you don’t want. Get vaccinations and prescriptions early, since they can be hard to find, and may have temporary side effects.

Support letters – Friends and family want to support you, but they’ll need some advanced warning, and time to get back to you.

    Chapter 2: Preparing Spiritually

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. - Colossians 3:12

A short term mission trip is an incredible opportunity to mature your faith, grow as an individual, and serve God. Mission participants usually tell us they were impacted more than the people they went to serve, and that the teams who
