About this ebook

Clinton sat in the lounge and listened to his sons. They were so excited to have the new neighbors move in. The house next door had been standing empty for quite a while. Clinton hoped they wouldn’t have problems with the neighbors as before. The new neighbors hadn’t been in the house for even an hour and he heard the loud music. Clinton roared with laughter. He knew everything would be fine. And then there was suddenly silence. No power! After the second attempt at asking for help from the neighbors, the two Moon daughters had given up. Beverley would resort to candles for their first evening in the new house. Clinton soon realized that they were new to the area. Well he knew what to do to help them out. He went to go and buy their power. It was a neighborly gesture seeing as they had been a little nasty to the new neighbors. Clinton and Peter met with the oldest daughter, Gail. Days later Clinton met Beverley who turned his world upside down. And that was when life changed.

    CHAPTER 1

Jeremy grinned and peeped through the blind in the kitchen.

Hey Dad! He heard the mumble from the lounge.

Our new neighbors have moved in. Well they are moving in. Their truck has arrived and they are offloading their furniture. Jonathan scrambled into the kitchen.

Let me see! Let me see!

Boys! Clinton smiled to himself. It had been quite a while since they had a neighbor. The last couple that lived next door was not on speaking terms with him because of the boys’ loud music. Clinton suddenly put his newspaper down and closed his eyes. He roared with laughter. His whole body shook as he laughed. He lifted his paper and sang with the tune as it pelted out from next door.

    Emily!

    Whaaaaaaat!

Turn that down! What will the neighbors think? We have so much to do. We can’t have that noise blaring forth even before we have a bed to sleep in! Emily let out a loud groan.

    Mum we are unpacking.

    First get the furniture in.

All my furniture is in. My bedroom is sorted out. Beverley groaned. There was so much to do. It took a while but all their furniture was off loaded. Beverley started unpacking boxes in each bedroom.

Rebecca walked through and looked at Beverley.

Are all your boxes in your bedroom Becky? Rebecca nodded.

Just looking for one more. She walked around and found the box and carried it through to her bedroom. Beverley cleared the box she was busy with and walked through to the bedrooms. She walked in to Emily’s bedroom and shook her head.

Emily! Emily looked up. She turned the music down a fraction.

    Yes Mum.

Please unpack your boxes. Keep the music down to tolerable and clear those empty boxes. And while you are up I would like to see your bed made properly. Emily groaned as she got up. Beverley walked out smiling and shaking her head. The music suddenly went up a few decibels.

Emily got up and started unpacking her boxes. Beverley walked back into Emily’s bedroom and started putting up her curtains. She stood on one of the stools from the kitchen and did a little balancing act.

Clinton turned his head and stared. He was looking at the most magnificent pair of legs he had ever seen. He watched as the woman moved from one side of the window to the other. Holding on to the burglar bar and treading carefully on the window sill. He smiled. A woman like that would have to have a gorgeous body. Clinton could see directly into Emily’s bedroom while the windows had no curtains.

    Peter walked through.

Dad. Clinton spun around and looked at Peter. Peter roared with laughter. He hadn’t spotted the next door neighbor.

    And that look?

    Uhm. Peter looked up.

Oh right. Lace curtains. Kind of pretty don’t you think? Clinton turned around. He could no longer see through the window with the lace curtains up. He nodded.

Very nice. They both looked at each other as it was suddenly quiet. It was deathly quiet it was almost eerie. Jonathan walked through.

I was kind of enjoying that. Her mother probably had something to say. Jeremy rolled his eyes as he walked into the lounge. Clinton looked at the boys.

So who has moved in next door then? Jonathan grinned.

Three young ladies. Very pretty. Jet black hair. Very cute. Clinton shook his head and smiled.

    Jonathan grinned.

I am sure I have that CD. Clinton shook his head.

Don’t drive them away on their first day. Jonathan chuckled as he walked through to his bedroom. He found the CD and put it on. Clinton groaned. His hand flew to his hair.

    Jonathan turn it down!

Awwww Dad! The volume went down a fraction.

Clinton kept on listening for any movement next door. There was suddenly a knock on the door. Clinton got up. Peter flew to the door. A young girl stood on the step.

    Hi. Peter smiled.

    Hi.

We sort of have a problem.

Right. She waved a plug in her hand.

Can we loan your power for like ten minutes. Our power is off. Peter turned and looked at Clinton. He shook his head.

I don’t think so. Peter shook his head.

Not going to happen. The young girl nodded.

Well thank you. I wish you joy and happiness. You lousy stupid prick! Peter stared as Rebecca walked off with her lead and the plug in her hand. Clinton looked at Peter.

Lovely mouth. Peter closed the door.

    Clinton shook his head.

Those people. That is the last time. I am going to have a word with that guy. There is always something. Peter shook his head.

Uhm. Dad. That wasn’t the girl from over the road. Clinton almost bolted out of his chair.

You mean that was the new neighbor? Peter grinned and chuckled.

    Yeah.

Oh hell! Peter roared with laughter as he looked at Clinton.

Peter take a stroll next door. See if you can help.

No way! Jonathan came down the passage. They both looked at him. Clinton smiled.

Jonathan. How many lovely ladies are next door?

Actually. I thought three. But now there are four. Definitely four. They both nodded.

It was getting dark. Beverley took the candles and put them into candle sticks and lit them all. She handed a candle to each daughter.

I will have the power sorted out tomorrow. All I need to do is find out where we can buy the power and we can punch it in and we will have power. I am just too tired today. Gail smiled and looked at Beverley.

I will go and find out Mum. I will go and buy some. Beverley shook her head.

Tomorrow is fine. We can have sandwiches for supper.

Mum. I need a cup of coffee. Beverley nodded.

    I know.

Gail made her way next door and knocked. Peter opened the door and looked at her. It wasn’t the same girl that had come earlier.

    Hi.

    Hi.

Can you tell me where I can buy electricity? We have one of those funny little boxes. Peter nodded.

Sure. At the gas station down the road.

Can you direct me? He grinned.

You know. Just down the road. The gas station. Gail sighed.

Oh don’t even bother. All we ask for is a little bit of help. Is the entire neighborhood like this? Peter looked at her. She turned around and walked off.

    Thanks any way.

Gail walked back home. She shook her head. She walked inside.

So helpful. I will nip out tomorrow morning Mum. Forget about that coffee. Beverly smiled. She shook her head and carried on buttering the bread and making their sandwiches in the candle light. She sighed. Her little family was such a handful. And there was no one to help. She just had to keep it together.

Clinton looked at Peter. He looked at Clinton.

Now they want directions. I told her the gas station down the road. Everyone knows where it is. Directions? He scoffed. Clinton looked at Peter. He got up and sighed.

Peter I don’t think they are from here.

Oh. Oh hell. Well then that was a little rude of me. Wasn’t it? Clinton nodded. He walked over and took his keys.

Going to the gas station. Peter walked out with him. Clinton and Peter hopped out of the car and walked over to the little shop at the gas station. Clinton looked at Peter.

How do we go about this? We don’t have their code for the power. Peter smiled as he reached the counter.

Shelby. Do you still have the list of power codes that you had hidden? Shelby grinned and nodded.

The Walters house. We need to buy power for that box. Shelby looked at Peter.

But that house has been vacant for a good few months. Peter nodded.

Yeah. New folk have just moved in. Shelby nodded. He looked at the list.

How much do you want? Clinton gave him the figure and he pressed the buttons on the keypad and they all waited. The little scrap of paper printed out and Clinton handed over the cash. He smiled.

Thanks. He walked into the shop and took a little basket. Peter looked at him.

    And now Dad?

Well. They are probably eating sandwiches. By tomorrow morning they are going to be famished. So I am going to buy them some bacon, eggs and breakfast stuff. Get a bottle of milk will you? Peter smiled as he fetched the milk. Clinton packed the little basket and added fresh rolls. He paid for everything and they walked out. Clinton drove home and took the packets and walked next door. Peter was hot on his heels.

Clinton knocked on the door and Gail opened up and stared at Clinton. He smiled.

I do apologize young lady. Peter didn’t realize that you might be new in the neighborhood. Gail smiled.

Yeah. We just moved here. Clinton nodded.

Now show me your power box. Gail walked into the kitchen.

We don’t know how it works. Clinton smiled.

I am Clinton and this is Peter. Gail smiled and shook their hands.

I am Gail. Clinton took the slip. He explained what he was doing and punched in the code. The power took a few seconds and all of a sudden there was noise.

    Emily shrieked.

Way to go! Yeah man! Peter smiled.

And this is for breakfast. Gail looked at the packets.

What do we owe you? Clinton shook his head.

No need. I am sure you will be famished by the morning. Gail smiled.

Thank you. Thank you so much. Gail smiled as Clinton and Peter walked out.

    Beverley walked up the passage.

Gail, what did you do? Gail smiled.

The neighbor and his son. They brought the power. And food. For breakfast. Beverley looked at the packets.

    But. But. Gail hugged Beverley.

Mum I think they went to the gas station and bought the power for us. Beverley looked at Gail.

That was mighty nice of them. But we need to pay them back. How much power did they buy? Gail took the little slip and read it to Beverley. She gasped.

    And the groceries! Gail smiled.

Mum. Just say thank you. Beverley smiled and nodded.

    What nice neighbors. Gail giggled.

That is not what Becky said. Beverly chuckled and shook her head.

Let’s have a cup of coffee. Gail chuckled as she made a pot of coffee.

    Nice of them. Beverley nodded.

    Very.

Clinton sat in the lounge and listened to the loud music. It hadn’t stopped since he bought the power for the neighbors. He smiled to himself. The family next door was so similar to his. One big noise. He listened as the song came to an end. He listened to someone shouting.

Hey Ma! This one is for you! Clinton smiled as he waited. He smiled and roared with laughter. He heard the giggling. He got up and danced around the lounge and sang. Even though he was a lot older than his sons he knew all the music that they listened to. Everything they listened to, so did he. The music went even louder. He grinned as he danced. Peter came in and roared with laughter. He stood and rocked his body to the beat. They both started singing.

She’s nothing like the girl you’ve ever seen before. They looked at each other as they sang.

Nothing you can compare to the neighborhood whore. They both roared with laughter.

Damn who’s a sexy chick! Clinton grinned and sang.

Damn girl! He thought about the shapely set of legs he had seen. He smiled to himself. Whoever she was she really had a shapely set of legs. He would have loved to have seen the rest. And Clinton had a thing about a good set of legs.

He listened to the goings on.

Emily! Turn that down! The volume went down.

    But Ma!

Play something we can all sing to! Clinton smiled as he listened.

I am not the local darn DJ!

Emily. Language! Something we can sing to without the cursing! Emily roared with laughter. Clinton listened and grinned. He was sure Emily was speaking into a microphone.

This song is dedicated to Mrs. Moon. For those of you who were expecting something outrageous. Sorry. And those of you who would like to take that little comfort break. Now is your chance.

    Emily! Emily roared with laughter.

To all the old Mammas and Pappas. This is dedicated to you. Are you listening Ma? He waited to hear what would be played. Clinton jumped out of his chair. The boys were all of a sudden in the lounge.

Beverley chuckled as the volume went up way past the tolerable level. She stood and rocked. The girls all moved to the lounge. They sang on the top of their voices.

I’ve been driving all night. My hands wet on the wheel. Beverley danced around the lounge.

And the voice in my head that drives my heel. They all joined in. They sang the song word for word. Beverley closed her eyes and sang with the song. Everything would be fine. The family would settle down and they would be happy. There was no need to worry.

Clinton smiled. This was his favorite song. The boys danced around the lounge and sang. Clinton grinned as he sang.

Radar love. He danced as he played the imaginary drums. Peter had the imaginary guitar. They all grinned. Jeremy and Jonathan danced together to the beat. The end of the song was coming up. Clinton danced around. He sang as he looked at his sons.

No more speed I’m almost there. Gotta keep cool now gotta take care. Clinton closed his eyes and danced around. He sang.

We got the thing that’s called radar love. The song ended and the boys whistled and clapped.

Emily grinned as the song finished. They all clapped. Emily roared with laughter. She whispered.

I think those are the neighbors. Can you hear them! Beverley grinned.

    Right ladies. Time for bed.

One more song Ma. Beverley nodded.

One more. Emily walked over to the bedroom and got the song
