Chapter One
I can't believe it. I found my daughter at last. She's safe and sound, but no thanks to me, just a little old gentleman from Shanghai who has no fear of demons because he doesn't believe in them.
One of the greatest weaknesses of the Demon Lords is not garlic salt...like Vampires hate...silver blades...like werewolves and vampires hate, nor holy water, which most, if not all demons hate. No it's the simple act of love and kindness. That kills them like soap destroys dirt. Demons just slide off a happy soul like air around a jet plane's curved wings.
I held my daughter securely in my arms, but her eyes were on JuWang, the Zen Master who had given her over to me. His eyes were golden colored and seemed to shift to different colors as he turned them this way and that. He was a mystery to watch, because although he seemed like a typical short, Buddhist Monk from Tibet, he was anything but.
I had seen him take a ten foot demon and wrap him around his little finger. Literally.
How'd you do that?
I asked.
He smiled. Remember. They are nothing but energy and though energy cannot be destroyed, its form can be molded to any idea one holds clearly in one's mind.
At that moment I knew I had met my match as a warrior. I had set Grace down and she had run to him to wrap her arms around his robed legs. He dropped down beside her. You must go with your father now. He will keep you safe.
I will miss you Ju.
She told him sweetly in a voice that was both light and lilting.
And I you buttercup of my heart.
He told her, kissing her lightly on the top of her head.
He then stood up and shooed her back to me. She laughed as I tossed her up onto my shoulders.
Fatso and Shaker were at the door behind me, keeping watch
