About this ebook

This is a Bible Study Series on the Gospel of Mark, from a Lutheran Perspective, that explores this story's take on Christ, view of the Cross, and, through basic questions, implications for our Contemporary lives. It is meant to be used in a small group; however, it is hoped that it will still be beneficial for even a lone student. This fourth part covers Mark 6:6b-8:26. Three Sessions will precede this one, and four more Sessions will follow.

    An Opening Prayer

Read Mark 6:6b-13 – The Mission to the Twelve

Mark once again sets the story in motion. After being at home and not being well-received, Jesus goes about/ among the villages teaching. This movement is fitting as it aligns with Jesus’ mission – which is not impeded by disappointment from the home acquaintances.

The sending of the twelve connects with the calling of the twelve (3:13-19) and is a fulfillment of 3:14-15 that Jesus would send them out to proclaim his message and to cast out demons. This action also is symbolic for Mark. The author anticipates the restoration
