The Final Key to the Scriptures

In my walk with God, I have gone through at least seven different stages of understanding the plan of God. At each stage, I was certain that particular understanding I had at the time was my key to the Scriptures. I interpreted the entire Word of God by that level of understanding. I only saw that one key was the imperative link to knowing God. Every group of believers who form some part of Christianity has a key to the Scriptures of their own. For some, it is water baptism; for others, it is church membership and catechism. For some, it may be speaking in tongues, the gifts of the Spirit, miracles, or faith. I, too, once believed some of those outward expressions held the key to the Scriptures. However, none of those keys ultimately turned the lock.

Then, at long last, I discerned that I had come to the final key; for I have now come to a revelation of Christ, who is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. That revelation has shown me, as the Apostle Paul says 146 times in his writings, Christ lives in me. Now I see Him as my only life. I realize all my searching for God—passing through each stage relative to my understanding at that particular time—was to bring me to the fullness of Christ. I now see Christ as all; and, consequently, I am free to become what the Father’s ultimate intention for me was from the beginning.

    Two Scriptural Experiences

Believers who mature in Christ have at least two scriptural experiences that bring them to that maturity. These two experiences may come one at a time or simultaneously when the believer has the true preaching of the gospel and the teaching of the Holy Spirit. Regardless of temporal conditions and outer appearances, the important point is the impact of these two experiences on the believer in terms of the spiritual dimension. I call these two experiences the John 3:16 experience and the Galatians 2:20 experience.

    The John 3:16 Experience—the Birthing

The John 3:16 experience concerns the spiritual birthing. It is impossible to grow in the Lord to fully become, as a believer, what God intended if there is no born-again experience. Throughout Christianity, John 3:16 is recognized as the key verse defining that experience: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
