About this ebook
Body Language: Real Secrets About Girls, Your Body, Puberty, and Growing Up is a readable guide for ages 8 and up from New Moon Girls. Girls and experts cover the physical, mental, and social changes of puberty. New Moon Girls’ award-winning mix of empathy, expert guidance, and peer support comes through again. This puberty guide puts the feelings and questions of girls first. With articles from both girls and experts, it covers a wide range of topics like menstruation, breast development, bras, body image, eating disorders, and how to celebrate your first period, as well as a host of feelings and needs. Whatever stage of puberty a girl is in, chances are she will learn something about her own body, and her attitudes about her own body, that will leave her more informed and uplifted. After reading it, your daughter will feel supported and more prepared to go through the transition. Especially helpful is hearing from girls who have been through it. Parents will feel better prepared to demystify bodily and emotional changes. Together, it will bring you closer together, leading to discussions that create trust, paving the way for better communication throughout adolescence. New Moon’s Body Language is a must-read for girls and parents of girls!

Dear Reader,
New Moon Girls (NMG) is the place where girls like you meet supportive friends from around the world. You learn with each other and express yourselves in print and online. We spark curiosity with articles, and help girls share their creativity in writing, art, photography, music, and video. Most of all we want girls to use their personal voices to give opinions and talk about their lives. And we listen when they do!
We joined the NMG team as college interns one summer. We were blown away by all that the Girls Editorial Board and the staff do. Not only do they produce the magazine, but they also have the safe social network bursting with girl-created original content.
Our main project was creating this ebook so you can use it digitally and connect with lots more related content online. It sounded great. It sounded exciting! First we had to learn how to make a book electronic. Ceilidh spent hours researching the most flexible and best processes and most readable design to use in this fast-changing medium. Paige reached out to the NMG social network community to ask how girls feel about their changing bodies and what they wanted in this book. The response was amazing. Then we put a draft together, starting with the Body Language book first published by NMG in 1999, using some classic articles that had been in the magazine and adding new content from current members. Finally, the Girls Editorial Board gave us feedback to make it better and our proofers checked it all over twice.
We feel confident saying that this book is what you are looking for—experiences of girls changing into women. And answers to the questions you have about what happens and how it feels. It’s a common journey that each girl faces and it helps to hear how it is for other girls, even if their experience is different from yours.
We hope you enjoy the first ever NMG ebook as much as we enjoyed creating it. Let us know your thoughts on the short form at http://NewMoon.com/contactus
