What one will read here are truths that were personally discovered and applied in the author's own personal walk with God these last 34 years, since coming to personally know God through faith in His precious Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Finding Comfort And Encouragement In The Promises Of God In The Last Days - Roger Henri Trepanier

    INTRODUCTION

One thing that is certain is that we are likely all familiar with what a promise is, at least the promises made among humans. If you have ever made a New Year’s resolution, then you did make a promise to yourself. If you are married and made vows at your wedding, then you did make promises to a significant other in your life. And if you have a mortgage or a car loan, then you have made a promise to repay, likely without even thinking about the fact that this too was a promise.

Promises even go back to our childhood days. Which one of us does not remember being wooed to do something we particularly did not want to do, but ended up doing it because of the promise made of being given something we did want?

Then as we grow older we all encounter the type of promises which unfortunately we have developed a sense of cynicism towards, due to some unpleasant experiences we have had with these. For instance, how many of us do not look at the promises that some politicians make at election time with some cynicism? And is it not so also with some advertising? And here I am not just thinking about the ads we all see on television and on the internet, but also the increasing number of companies, and even individuals, who advertise products and services, but who do so in a fraudulent way. In other words, these people are only out to scam us out of our hard earned dollars in some deceptive way!

Fortunately for all of us, when we come to the promises of God, they come stamped with God’s personal guarantee, which says, "God said it, then that seals it!" For what is important to realize regarding promises is that it is a statement made declaring one’s intention of doing or not doing something in the future, backed by one’s word, whether verbally stated or in writing. And one’s word needs to be seen as being based on one’s character. In other words, when a promise is made, then our level of assurance, or if you like, our level of confidence that the promise made will be fulfilled as promised, depends in large measure upon what we know of the character of the person making the promise. Therefore, the more we know God through a personal walk with Him on a daily basis, then the more we will be willing to trust Him in His promises we encounter in His word, the Bible.

And this is what this book is about, namely learning to apply the word of God given to us as promises to our everyday situations, so that we are comforted and encouraged, as God’s wants us to be, who are His children, so as to live here on earth productively for our wellbeing and God’s glory, being properly adjusted for whatever situations we might face each day!

And please note that I have no intention of talking about things in this book that I have no knowledge of. In other words, what you will read here are truths that I have personally discovered and applied to my own personal walk with God these last 34 years, since coming to personally know God through faith in His precious Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. What you will find here is based on my own personal experiences in having taken hold of some of the promises of God during my own walk with God, and what I discovered as a result. Then what is also very important for the reader to know is that while I was in a daily time of prayer with God on February 17th, 2014, God directed His servant to not only go ahead and write this book and have it published, but also gave the title as well.

If you have read this far, you likely will have gathered by now that this book is really intended for those who have a personal relationship with God, which means that one is now indwelt by The Holy Spirit, having experienced a spiritual birth into the family of God as now a child of God. And if you do not have this personal relationship with God, then may I suggest that before you begin reading this book, you first read the author’s first book, entitled, "God did not create human beings to die… but to live on… eternally!, which is available as a print copy and as an e-Book from all the major distribution channels. Or you may start this book by reading the last chapter first, which is entitled, The most important of all of God’s promises!"

And before getting into the book, we should first define the term "the last days" as used in the title of this book. One useful place to start here is to note what God tells us at Hebrews 1:1,2, where we read:

"[1] God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, [2] in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world."

And what God refers to by the term "the last days" here is the time of fulfillment of all that God intends to do in time through His precious Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. In other words, the term ’last days’ here begins with the first coming from Heaven to earth of God’s Son and then ends after His second coming from Heaven to earth, so as to fulfill during that time all that God plans to do in time, which He has told us about in the Old Testament.

Then what is important to know is that within this time of fulfillment known as the last days, God has two ages, so that when one reaches the end of each of these ages, then that too may be called "the last days." And since the age in which we are now living in is known as ‘the church age’ in Scripture, then it is the last days of this present age of the church that the author has in view in this book! And as a further help in this regard, the author would like the reader to notice what God does tell us about these last days that we are now in, noting what we read at 2 Timothy 3:1-5:

"[1] But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. [2] For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, [3] unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, [4] treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, [5] holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; avoid such men as these."

The author believes that it is precisely because of what we read here, namely what it will be like in the world in the last days of the present age, that God has led His servant to write this book, as yet one of countless ways in which God shows His love to His children, in this case, simply wanting to provide comfort and encouragement to each one of us through His very great and precious promises!

And then a last thing that is necessary before bringing this introduction to a close is to let the reader know a little bit about the author, although this is the least important part of the book! Nevertheless, we are all curious by nature, so a few brief details are in order here.

It has already been mentioned that I have had a personal relationship with God for over 34 years now, which is by far the best event that has ever happened in my life! At John 5:24, our precious Lord Jesus Christ tells us that anyone who believes in Him has "eternal life, and as a result will never experience God’s judgment, but such a one has passed out of death into life. What this means then is that before coming to believe in God, I was on my way to an eternity away from God in a literal place called hell," but by God’s mercy, grace, and love, I did come to believe in God’s Son from Heaven, Jesus Christ, namely in having believed that His death at the cross was for me, and that He was buried and then raised from the dead the third day, so that He is alive forevermore for God The Father to impart to me through Him by The Holy Spirit eternal life to live by! And now as a result I have the forgiveness of all my sins and eternal life with God. If this is not good news, then I do not know what is! If you look up John 5:24 in the Bible, you will actually see that it is given as a promise from God. May God also grant us the ability to recognize all His precious promises found in His word!

Another thing which might be useful in sharing is that God called His servant as an evangelist over 15 years ago, before sending him out over 2000 miles away from family and friends, to the place of service God assigned, and where His servant has been serving Him during that time. And this took place after having gone through 21 years of formal education, and then in having spent almost 28 years working project engineering for a large utility.

It has also been my great pleasure to write, under God’s guiding Hand, nine Commentaries of books of the Bible, with some of these Commentaries taking from 3 to 4 years to complete. Also, there have been over 535 Devotional Commentaries on portions of the Bible, including more than 100 studies on various subjects found in the Bible. The foregoing work has been the foundation material that God has used in His servant’s counseling ministry these last 20 years, and also the background information to have in giving the sermon in a local church for 52 Sundays over a period of almost five years. And now God is using a lot of this material as background material also for the writing of the first book, and also this one. All of this is to the glory of God alone, for the author knows full well that apart from God’s grace and power, he cannot do anything that will last for time and eternity!

The author was widowed over 20 years ago, his one and only wife having died of cancer at a young age. When the author married his wife, she herself was a widow of two years, having given birth to three children, who at the time of our marriage were 9, 12, and 15 years old respectively. The author did adopt the children, who have since gone on to each marry a Christian spouse, and then for each of these couples to have two children each.

The author also established a website at:

And now my prayer is that God will richly bless you as you read this book, and greatly minister to your every need in your life, as only God can do!

    WE ARE IN GOOD HANDS…

WHEN WE ARE IN GOD’S HANDS!

    CHAPTER ONE

    _____________________________________________________________________

Where we must begin… with God

As can be expected, we must begin a book about God’s promises by first looking at The Person with Whom we have to do. In other words, we will only be able to find comfort and encouragement in the promises of God to the extent that we know God, to the extent that we have learned to trust Him, and to the extent that we walk with Him on a moment by moment basis!

We need to realize that my promise to you is only as good as my character, and so when we speak about God’s promises, what is also true is that all of His promises depend on Who God is, basically, His character. And therefore, we begin here by looking at God’s character, as revealed by His attributes, given to us in God’s word, the Bible. Here we will briefly examine five of God’s attributes, which are part of His character, from which God fulfills all His promises to us.

Now the first attribute of God to notice here is God’s All Power, as seen in His Sovereignty. We are to be aware that God is not only Creator over all that exists, but He is also absolute Ruler, exercising unlimited power and absolute control over the whole of creation,
