About this ebook
A Society Of Drug Addicts, is set in the near future when drug companies have convinced everyone, including the government, that having a drugged society is the best way to eliminate violence and unhappiness. One young adult couple disagrees and vows to do their best to end their zombie-like society and return to the good old days. However, will they be able to have any effect before they are discovered, and then forced to take the medications themselves?

I was born in England, but have lived in Southern California for many years. I m now retired and live in the Pacific NW in a little seaside city amongst the giant redwoods and wonderful harbor, almost at the Oregon border. My husband and I have one cat, called Midnight and she is featured in two of my latest Sci-Fi short stories. I love Science Fiction, animals, and trying to help others. I publish under Doreen Milstead as well as my own name. My photo was taken right before the coronation of QE II in the UK.

After they crossed the highway, Biyangka and Jose ran, and ducked and darted around higher bushes and then in front of the large spruce and oak trees from the surveillance drone. Pop..Pop..Pop. Pop...rattattattt..rattattat
gunfire fired far in the background of the city as they ran north.
A slew of police sirens followed. Twenty-two year old Biyangka kept holding on tightly to Jose's hand. Jose was one year younger and luckily finished college the same year as her. Next year every city university matriculating student had earmarked two bottles of MedsOne to pick up at the registration desk.
Biyangka's and Jose's feet flattened the grass and just as quickly let loose as they darted further into the forest of the suburbs. The drone fluttered like a butterfly, but moved in a straight line at 98.7 miles per hour. Drone butterflies had a flight time of just less than twenty hours.
Therefore, Biyangka and Jose had been running and hiding all night. They finally reached the outskirts of the city where the Butterfly Drones were restricted by President Thorazine's directive Dz-1.6. If the Butterfly Drones stuck you using one of their hypothermic legs, the MedsOne hit the blood stream in ten minutes.
After ten minutes, Biyangka and Jose would sleep for ten minutes. When they woke up they would feel no stress, no fear, and no pain and have no will to resist anymore. They would walk slowly, almost normally, except for the hesitation in their steps like all the other US citizens.
They would slowly recognize stoplights, and friends and eat slowly. Every other hour a drugged person would feel like taking a catnap even after sleeping eight hours. One never really slept on MedsOne.
Some seven years back, the town criers and alarmists, as the national media called them, nicknamed MedsOne The Zombie Drug.
"MedsOne Zombie drug steals life from normal people. MedsOne, the alarmist town crier's said, makes you depressed, suicidal, unable to find any joy in all the joy that surrounds you. You will be devoid of feelings. Don't take it. Don't go for the free medical screenings. Don't listen to the experts who are becoming billionaires doling out the toxic side effect producing drug. This is your last chance to live life!
