An Occasional Poem - Mary Jane Gonzales

    SECTION 1:

    BIRTHDAY

    BIRTHDAY COMMENCEMENT

A special day will soon appear,

Commencement of a brand new year.

May God in all his glory bless

Your health, your home, and all the rest.

    BIRTHDAY WISHES

May friends be kind and life be sweet,

And may your birthday be a treat.

And may the dear Lord up above

Bless heart and home with His great love.

*Written for a co-worker at a temp. job.

    BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

Lest your birthday week be taken

    With festivities galore,

    Lest an illness overtake you

In the week that comes before,

    We should celebrate it early

    That the wishes be ensured

    And that many timely blessings

    To you would be outpoured.

*Written as a birthday card for a friend.

    REACH THEIR PRIME

As I sit and ponder aging,

And I look back o’er the years,

I’m so glad despite our differences

    We’ve handled all our cares.

I’m so glad your life has lasted

    To accommodate the time

That it took a mom and daughter

    Both to reach their prime.

*Written as a card for my mother.

    BIRTHDAY BLESSINGS

    Today is someone’s birthday,

    My friend of many years.

I pray that God will bless her

    And blot out any fears.

    I pray for affirmation

    From family and from friends.

I pray the joy of Jesus

    And love that never ends.

Reward her deeds and meet her needs,

    Show her that I care.

    And that I’m very thankful

For the friendship that we share.

    *Written for a good friend.

    BIRTHDAY CHEER

    Yes, it’s been another year

But please don’t wish me birthday cheer.

For one who’s young, it’s all the rage

But not for me at this old age.

    AGING

When one gets old and not so cute

And finds it harder to re-boot,

There’s more to life than meets the eye -

Like simple things that make you high...

    Becoming friends with children grown

And long-time friends that you have
