Real Solutions for Busy Moms Devotional - Kathy Ireland

make money your servant
Each month, we are falling deeper into debt. We’re spending money we don’t have, and now I’m worried about keeping my job. To be honest, I’m scared!
THE LORD’S SOLUTION
Blessed is the man who finds wisdom and the man who gains understanding. For her profit is better than the profit of silver and her gain better than fine gold.
PROVERBS 3:13–14
Wealth obtained by fraud dwindles, but the one who gathers by labor increases it.
PROVERBS 13:11
MOM TO MOM
As Christians, we know that there is no such thing as financial security.
The only real security in this life and the next comes from being one with the Lord. The current financial crisis is impacting everyone. No one knows what tomorrow holds, but as believers, we know who holds tomorrow. Most people believe that more money will solve their financial problems. But if your tendency is to spend every dollar that comes in, for whatever reason, more money will never solve anything. You and your family will always be struggling with debt and living from one paycheck to the next. Early in my modeling career, I began spending most of my income and paying less attention to saving. Then I blew out my knee while skiing, and suddenly the dollars stopped flowing. That experience was a powerful lesson for me. It taught me the importance of living beneath my means. After that, I made sure to set aside a specific portion of my income every month. Remember, God wants us to be wise with our money. You are the mistress, and your money is your servant. If you maintain a healthy relationship with money, you’ll be a great model for your children, and your family will be on its way to financial success.
ACTION STEPS
1. Read what the Bible has to say about money, such as Matthew 25:14–30, Luke 16:13, and Proverbs 15:16.
2. If you’re not doing so already, establish a budget and stick to it. Look for expenditures that could be eliminated or at least cut back while you’re in debt.
3. If your financial problems are severe, consider more drastic steps such as relocating to an area where living expenses and real estate values are lower. It’s hard and scary, sure, but achieving peace of mind and financial stability is worth it!
Dear God, I thank You for the financial blessings You’ve given us and ask for Your forgiveness for how I’ve managed them. Please grant me new wisdom as we take charge of our family’s finances.

peace in our time
Today has been a disaster! Too many diapers, too many dirty dishes, too many demands. Where can I find peace of mind, because right now I feel like I’m losing my mind? How do I find hope and joy?
THE LORD’S SOLUTION
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
ROMANS 15:13
Be still, and know that I am God.
PSALM 46:10 (NIV)
MOM TO MOM
Please understand that those hurried and harried feelings can weigh down any mom. The answer is to spend more time with the source of peace and rest. Recently, I began setting my alarm clock anywhere from fifteen minutes to an hour earlier than usual. I now dedicate those first morning minutes to studying the Bible and talking with and listening to God. Starting each day by focusing on Him is making a huge difference in my life. When I don’t make time for God, my priorities get out of alignment and I have great trouble coping. When that special appointment with our Lord is honored, He gives me the strength, hope, and peace to find solutions for the challenges that continually arise. This works for me…it may work for you too.
ACTION STEPS
1. Find at least fifteen minutes out of your busy day to reflect on God’s love for you. Read Romans 15:13 and let your heart fill up with joy and peace.
2. When the day presents a serious challenge, pause from the situation and pray, even if in silence, for guidance and wisdom, knowing that God will answer your prayer. He won’t necessarily give you the answer you want, but He always answers, and His plan is always the right one.
Father, thank You for loving me so much, for always being ready to offer comfort, hope, and peace. Show me how to put distractions aside so that I can rest in
