- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This book was really interesting. I feel like a bit of a weirdo for reading it, but it came highly recommended and I can understand why. I'm on the fence with the concept of the law of attraction, but the book does contain many good tips for positively changing your life. I have just picked up the sequel (released yesterday in Australia) called the Power, so we'll see how it compares.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5This book totally sucks. Everyone in my Neighborhood Book Club hated it, included the woman who felt duped into picking it out. However, if you want to know how a depressingly large population of people actually think, then this book will give you tremendous insight. There was a hilarious parody review of this book on Amazon.com. I highly recommend reading that review!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book helped me changed my whole outlook. I am on a new path and happy. You have to read it and watch the DVD to really understand it.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Gave up! Blehhh...
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A family member lent this book to me when I was going through a rough time.
It actually helped me. It is common sense, but seeing the words in writing made things clearer. You have the power to turn your life into what you want it to be as long as you believe you can do it.
If you feel down definitely read this book. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Let there be abundance.
Oh it's already there. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Rhonda has pooled a lot of ideas from others, some from earlier centuries. There are very clear practical ideas for incorporating a more positive approach to life and therefore benefiting from the law of attraction.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5this book show me about the frequencies we generate unconsiously, which then invite a like frequencies, persons, events, information to our next moment.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5A pop cognitive behavior manual that describes unoriginal but important concepts: positive thinking, visualization, gratitude and self-talk can change people's behavior and lives. That's all nice and true and uncontroversial. The way these themes are conveyed is well, flaky. The author relies (too) heavily on physics and attraction analogies. I think the author actually believes electromagnetic radiation and metaphysics are related. It is an uplifting book, but I am always tempted to change my "brain frequency" to a more "negative channel" when I read all that attraction stuff.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It certainly offers a new perspective on things. Reading through this book, I found myself relating to it and by the end, I loved it. I say give it a chance. It is definitely a different outlook, but with an open mind, you might discover some new qualities within yourself.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This book is about faith. The format of the book is not that of a novel. You sort of have to skim and find what you are looking for. I would suggest a better format. However, there are some very powerful passages in this book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I hope what I read stays!
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5A beautifully-produced book, certainly.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The 'secret' that this book is about is the Law of Attraction (LOA) and, if you know nothing about the LOA, then this book is a good starting point. It explains what the LOA is (you get what you focus on) and then goes on to illustrate how you can apply this 'secret' to achieve what you truly want with regard to money, relationships, your health and the world. The LOA is based on the energy vibrations we are emitting (and these are determined by the types of thoughts we have). Gratitude is a powerful process for shifting our energy onto higher planes and bringing more of what we want into our lives and when we feel love, we are emitting the highest vibration of all. What I liked about the book are the summaries at the end of each chapter and the stories that are told to illustrate the points that are being made. One of the most astounding is the story about Morris Goodman, 'The Miracle Man'. He was completely paralyzed after he crashed his aeroplane and could only blink his eyes. The doctors said he would remain like that for the rest of his life, but nine months later he walked out of the hospital on his own two feet. These are inspiring stories, but there is more to the LOA than is covered in this book. However, it is a good introduction to the whole topic and, if you have an open mind, it will most definitely broaden your horizons about what is possible and achievable in life.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Repetitious to the point of being brain numbing.Regurgitated material.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5My sister gave this to me with the caveat that it's a diluted form of the film (which I have yet to view). I liked the book even though it doesn't offer a lot of substance. I feel that the power of mental energy/focus hasn't been fully explored and so this is interesting to me. However, I also think that this illumination of it is too simplistic. It's not able to show people any sort of path through their complex thought process to arrive at something that's purely focused and positive. So it's lite, but food for thought none the less and it introduced me to others that have been interesting to read (none of whom seem to have THE ANSWER--except for themselves--but are acquainted with the "secret").
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love the concept. Perspective is a big deal and I believe in much of what Covey says and you get what you first create in the mind. If you ignore the pyramid-scheme-esque, purple-haired, old lady, televangelist feel of the whole thing it will have a beneficial effect on your thinking.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Good Book, fast read!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Very uplifting and inspirational in it's presentation and packaging, but this information is nothing new. The idea of using visualization, affirmations, good attitude, etc. to transform your life is a very old idea and a most popular strategy in many self-help books. None the less, I still enjoy revisiting these ideas and they have already impacted on my current life and outlook. I see the idea (or secret) as it was presented very useful on two levels. If you change your outlook to one of optimism and certainty, you will begin to see and act on opportunities (connected to your goals) that are all around you. People will also begin to respond to you in a more favorable mode as well. Some of the latest mind/brain research shows that much (or most) of the actions we take are below our conscious level (within our unconscious brain.) So through visualization and believing something we want already exists we set the direction of our unconscious mind. That mind then begins to take action (effortlessly) to bring reality into existence. What is not provable (or is a conjecture) in the book is the idea that the universe is personal and your thoughts are the key ingredient that affects (or attracts the changes in your life.) There is a bit of talk about quantum physics in the book and if you subscribe to the mulit-verse model of the quantum universe (our realities are forever splitting into alternate universes) then perhaps our consciousness flows to universes that favor the outcomes we believe are real. I took this book in via audio as I took my morning walks you might consider this mode.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is the second time I have read this book. I read a lot of spirituality and leadership books, and the same ideas seem to keep coming up repeatedly. I found this easy to read, and it featured ideas from many different individuals in the field, both historical and contemporary. The author states that not all readers will find this book to be useful, but each should take what he or she needs from the book to make it work for the individual. I also watched the DVD and have the CD.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Rhonda Byme has a irritating way to write in short sentences with lots of exclamation marks (Now you The Secret you know!) but still, I was seduced by some of her (and others) ideas to make more of your own life. The main message is that you whatever you think about, you will attract. So control your thoughts, put them in the right direction and off you go! That's actually a good message. In the last years I've read a lot of works of spiritual leaders, followed some personal development course and talked with a body language expert and basically they have said the same things. Do the things you like, avoid to think about the things you dislike and live in the now. So that's it for this review, I'm going back to the now in the real life! :-)
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Quite inspiring really. It's quite scary to think how what you think you can have and I suppose it's helped me question my negativity - what if what the book says IS true? What if everything I ask for I get - good or bad? Eeek.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5A pig in a fur coat. Smarmy, to boot. A collection of quotations "explained" and summarized by the author. Honestly, any good book of quotations without commentary would give you better brain food.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I remember reading this book, back when I was in sales. It was a fascinating read. It made a lot of sense, at the time. Did a good job at lighting a fire under my ass, to get myself motivated.
But, just like going to some stupid Tony Robbins seminar, this book too fades away after a short time. All this motivational stuff falls flat. After a couple weeks, you realise that it's all just bullshit. What the ideas in this book are trying to teach you, is yes, it is all bullshit. It's all in your head. Whether you believe yourself a failure, or believe yourself a success, you're right.
You don't need this book, or anything else, to succeed. You just need yourself to want to succeed, and have the drive to fulfill that dream. Holy shit! I should write one of these stupid motivational books. But, why... I mean, Baywatch is on. And, I'm hungry. Fuck that noise. People can motivate their own damn selves. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a wonderful tool for anyone who wants to begin to learn about the law of attraction. It's easy to follow and shares many different people's experiences with the law of attraction. I recommend listening to the book on CDs.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The five stars I give this book aren't for brilliant writing or ground-breaking research; they're for providing an intense spark of inspiration, hope and joy. I was fortunate enough to have wise parents who required I read the likes of Napoleon Hill, Og Mandino and Norman Vincent Peale as part of my early education. It's taken me a long time to pick up this new book because the title put me off. I guessed, from all I heard about it, that "The Secret" is simply the law of attraction, which is no secret at all. Even after I finally decided I should read "The Secret", just to make sure I wasn't missing anything, I found myself reading the first chapters thinking that it was just the same old stuff. The problem with "the same old stuff" though, is we tend to let it slip from our minds, so reminders and fresh perspectives on the most important things in life are always a good thing. Even if you are quite familiar with the law of attraction, this book is a lovely and joy-filled reminder that the course of your life really is all up to you. This isn't heavy reading, but it is happy reading, and happy is very important.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Amazing, Interesting, Engaging, and definitely Thought Provoking. I can see why so many have read this book. The principle behind the secret makes sense. One of our favorites at home.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very well put together.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It is An awesome must read book <3
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Was given this book as a gift by a friend who has felt it helpful in her life. While I endorse the 'power of positive thought' and maintaining a spirit of gratitude to our Maker for our many blessings, this book goes way too far. I found many of its scientific, spiritual and metaphysical claims to be spurious. I'm happy for those who have found this book rewarding, but I was not one of them.
