I can't imagine why someone would rate this book only 1 star, I found it helpful to be able to click on a word from the contents section and immediately view verses on that subject. That said, not every verse is necessarily exactly on topic, but all are within range. A helpful tool for quick reference.

Exodus 4:10-12 NRSV But Moses said to the LORD, O my Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor even now that you have spoken to your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue. Then the LORD said to him, Who gives speech to mortals? Who makes them mute or deaf, seeing or blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Now go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you are to speak.

1 Chronicles 4:10 NASB Now Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and that You would keep me from harm that it may not pain me! And God granted him what he requested.

John 14:26 WNT But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send at my request, will teach you everything, and will bring to your memories all that I have said to you.

Romans 12:6-8 NKJV Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

Philippians 4:13 NASB I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

1 Timothy 1:12 NKJV And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry.

1 Peter 4:10-11 NIV Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.

ADOPTION

Matthew 18:4-5 WEB Whoever therefore humbles himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. Whoever will receive one such little child in my name receives me.

John 1:12-13 WEB But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become God’s children, to those who believe in his name: who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

John 14:18 NKJV I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

Romans 8:14-17 NCV The true children of God are those who let God’s Spirit lead them. The Spirit we received does not make us slaves again to fear; it makes us children of God. With that Spirit we cry out, Father. And the Spirit himself joins with our spirits to say we are God’s children. If we are God’s children, we will receive blessings from God together with Christ. But we must suffer as Christ suffered so that we will have glory as Christ has glory.

2 Corinthians 6:18 NCV I will be your father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.

Ephesians 1:3-6 WNT Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has crowned us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms in Christ; even as, in His love, He chose us as His own in Christ before the creation of the world, that we might be holy and without blemish in His presence. For He pre-destined us to be adopted by Himself as sons through Jesus Christ—such being His gracious will and pleasure—to the praise of the splendor of His grace with which He has enriched us in the beloved One.

James 1:27 NKJV Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

AFFIRMATION

Jeremiah 29:11 NLT For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

Jeremiah 32:40-41 NLT And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, promising not to stop doing good for them. I will put a desire in their hearts to worship me, and they will never leave me. I will rejoice in doing good to them and will faithfully and wholeheartedly replant them in this land.

2 Corinthians 5:17 TMB Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Galatians 2:20 TMB I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me. And the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Ephesians 3:16-20 NCV I ask the Father in his great glory to give you the power to be strong inwardly through his Spirit. I pray that Christ will live in your hearts by faith and that your life will be strong in love and be built on love. And I pray that you and all God’s holy people will have the power to understand the greatness of Christ’s love—how wide and how long and how high and how deep that love is. Christ’s love is greater than anyone can ever know, but I pray that you will be able to know that love. Then you can be filled with the fullness of God. With God’s power working in us, God can do much, much more than anything we can ask or imagine.

Colossians 2:9-10 NKJV For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

1 John 1:7 NCV If we live in the light, as God is in the light, we can share fellowship with each other. Then the blood of Jesus, God’s Son, cleanses us from every sin.

AFRAID

Genesis 15:1 NCV After these things happened, the Lord spoke his word to Abram in a vision: Abram, don’t be afraid. I will defend you, and I will give you a great reward.

Psalm 28:6-7 NASB Blessed be the LORD, because He has heard the voice of my supplication. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart exults, and with my song I shall thank Him.

Psalm 56:5-4 NKJV Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God (I will praise His word), in God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me?

PSALM 91:9-12 WEB Because you have made Yahweh your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place, no evil shall happen to you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling. For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands.

Proverbs 5:24-26 WEB When you lie down, you will not be afraid. Yes, you will lie down, and your sleep will be sweet. Don’t be afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it comes: for Yahweh will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being taken.

2 Timothy 1:7-9 NIV For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God, who has saved us and called us to a holy life.

Hebrews 13:5-6 WNT Your lives should be untainted by love for money. Be content with what you have; for God Himself has said, I will never, never let go your hand: I will never forsake you. So that we fearlessly say, The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid: what can man do to me?

ALCOHOL

Proverbs 20:1 NIV Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise.

Proverbs 23:19-21 NASB Listen, my son, and be wise, and direct your heart in the way. Do not be with heavy drinkers of wine, with gluttonous eaters of meat; for the heavy drinker and the glutton will come to poverty, and drowsiness will clothe one with rags.

Proverbs 23:29-33 NASB Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaining? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? Those who linger long over wine, those who go to taste mixed wine. Do not look on the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly; at the last it bites like a serpent and stings like a viper. Your eyes will see strange things and your mind will utter perverse things.

Hosea 4:11 NKJV Harlotry, wine, and new wine enslave the heart.

Romans 13:13-14 NIV Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

Romans 14:21 NIV It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother to fall.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 NKJV Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

Ephesians 5:18 NIV Do not get drunk on wine….Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

AMBITION

Proverbs 23:4-5 NKJV Do not overwork to be rich; because of your own understanding, cease! Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away like an eagle toward heaven.

Jeremiah 45:5 NKJV And do you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them; for behold, I will bring adversity on all flesh, says the LORD. But I will give your life to you as a prize in all places, wherever you go.

Micah 6:8 NCV The LORD has told you, human, what is good; he has told you what he wants from you: to do what is right to other people, love being kind to others, and live humbly, obeying your God.

Luke 13:23-24 NKJV Then one said to Him, Lord, are there few who are saved? And He said to them, Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.

1 Corinthians 14:12 NCV Since you want spiritual gifts very much, seek most of all to have the gifts that help the church grow stronger.

1 Thessalonians 4:10-12 WNT And indeed you do love all the brethren throughout Macedonia. And we exhort you to do so more and more, and to vie with one another in eagerness for peace, every one minding his own business and working with his hands, as we ordered you to do: so as to live worthy lives in relation to outsiders, and not be a burden to any one.

ANGELS

Exodus 23:20 NIV See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.

Hebrews 1:14 NASB Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?

Hebrews 13:1-2 NIV Keep on loving each other as brothers. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.

Ecclesiastes 7:9 NLT Don’t be quick-tempered, for anger is the friend of fools.

Jeremiah 30:24 NKJV The fierce anger of the LORD will not return until He has done it, and until He has performed the intents of His heart. In the latter days you will consider it.

Ephesians 6:4 NCV Fathers, do not make your children angry, but raise them with the training and teaching of the Lord.

Colossians 3:8 NIV But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.

James 1:19-21 NIV Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

ANXIOUS

Psalm 37:5-7 NLT Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you. He will make your innocence as clear as the dawn, and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun. Be still in the presence of the LORD, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.

Psalm 94:17-19 NIV Unless the LORD had given me help, I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death. When I said, My foot is slipping, your love, O LORD, supported me. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.

Isaiah 41:13 TMB For I, the LORD thy God, will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, ‘Fear not; I will help thee.’

Luke 12:29-31 WEB Don’t seek what you will eat or what you will drink; neither be anxious. For the nations of the world seek after all of these things, but your Father knows that you need these things. But seek God’s Kingdom, and all these things will be added to you.

John 14:1 NCV Jesus said, Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust in me.

John 14:27 NKJV Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

1 Peter 5:6-7 NIV Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

ASSURANCE

John 6:37-39 NCV The Father gives me my people. Every one of them will come to me, and I will always accept them. I came down from heaven to do what God wants me to do, not what I want to do. Here is what the One who sent me wants me to do: I must not lose even one whom God gave me, but I must raise them all on the last day.

John 10:27-29 NRSV My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand. What my Father has given me is greater than all else, and no one can snatch it out of the Father’s hand.

Romans 8:38-39 NKJV For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Hebrews 10:22-23 NIV Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

Romans 5:8-11 NASB While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.
