About this ebook

She's got nothing left to lose …

With her fiancé suddenly engaged to another and her reputation in tatters, Merribeth Wakefield needs a bold plan to reclaim her life. She must be brave. Confident. She must … kiss a rake? The suggestion is ludicrous! Yet when Merribeth finds herself alone with the dark and brooding Lord Knightswold, suddenly the plan doesn't seem so farfetched. So she does something she never thought she'd do—she kisses him.

But he has everything to gain …

The Marquess of Knightswold—Bane to most—has no use for the affections of women. Well, none lasting longer than a single night. A plot for revenge weighs heavy on his mind, leaving no room for romance. But then a shy, witty miss borrows a kiss from him in a darkened room, and everything he thought he knew about innocent debutantes vanishes along with her.

When a twist of fate brings Merribeth within Bane's grasp, he'll have to resist her charms—or risk losing everything—for the sake of his heart.

3.5 stars actually. This entire series is a nice light read. And the friendship between the wall flowers is quite nice.

This felt particularly contrived to me. The pretense, the plot, a whole bunch of awfully-convenient-yet-highly-unlikely happenings. Also, I tend to find revenge plots tedious, *especially* when the person is sacrificing having happiness/love/family in their life just to spite someone already dead! And several parts, like her broken engagement, left me metaphorically scratching my head as well. Broken engagements definitely did hurt the woman's reputation. But her situation wasn't even an engagement, it was just a faulty 'understanding', (going five years thinking every time a man mentioned marriage he was referring to marrying you , when he was entirely oblivious to it the entire time, is a whole other matter!). Even if they had broken an engagement though, she might have difficulty securing another relationship, but she seems to believe that the shame is so great that she can't even live in society with her widowed aunt without her suffering extreme disgrace and being cast out as well. =/ It just felt like ridiculousness added only to manipulate the plot. And later, when he does actually propose, they decide to *pretend* to be engaged to save him from the embarrassment of two broken engagements, (even though she knows at the time she won't marry him). How is that a solution?!? At best it would just be a short reprieve before causing an *even bigger* scandal later! Say he got down on one knee to ask her forgiveness for the first misunderstanding, ANYTHING, rather than doubling down to make it so much worse! By the time the 'huge secret comes to light at worst possible time' I was just wanting it to be over. *sigh* The couple did have a few sweet moments. This is the first book I've read from this author, I would consider trying another some day, but I won't be rushing out to do it anytime soon.

This second book in Ms. Lorrett’s Wallflower Weddings series was as good as the first book, but more diabolical in plot and feel.

The heroine, Merribeth, was a bit too meek at the start of the story, but by the end of the book she finds her stride and strength.

I truly adored the hero! I think he made this book worth the read. I thoroughly enjoyed him and his journey to his happily ever after. He did a great job hiding his true self from the ton, but deep down lurked a man of gold.

I liked the awkwardness of the romance in the beginning, and following those two was a joy.

If you’re a fan of “jilted” tropes, this one is very well written, fast paced and even has a few surprises I didn’t see coming.

I loved this. It's much deeper than the first book and the H/h are both wonderful. I loved that the things Merribeth was self conscious of were the things Bane loved about her and their chemistry was palpable.
