About this ebook

This book makes a convincing case for the fact that we are indeed living in the last days of the present age. The author begins by looking at what God says about the last days, then at what the signs of the times are, then examines the foundations upholding society, which are being destroyed. There is then a section dealing with the rise, decline, and alignment of nations, including the United States, and also a discussion of major events taking place since 1989, where it is shown that these changes must occur before the present age can end. Then the author ends with an examination of Revelation 13, which deals with the antichrist, a one world government, the false religious system on earth, and the mark of the beast, where one will not be able to buy or sell without this mark. The book does not attempt to sensationalize nor speculate, but seeks to remain within the context of what God has already made known.

    INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the last days! Unless you are a serious student of the Bible, you might not even have been aware that we are indeed living in the last days. And it is the purpose of this book to make the reader aware of this fact, under God’s guidance, so that any believer reading this might use the remaining time here on earth wisely, and that all others might take this as a warning from God!

What I would like for us to do at the outset here is to think of the last days as an approaching storm, and not just any storm, but one which is capable of causing a lot of damage and hardship, such as a hurricane or a tornado. And when we see a storm approaching, we always see accompanying signs, such as dark cloud formations, an increase in wind velocity, a drop in temperature, and a fluctuation in atmospheric pressure. It is the kind of storm that if you live close to uninhabited areas, away from a city, you might see the animals scurrying for cover. And so that is what the last days are like in many ways, accompanied with many signs, but unlike the animals, there is no place to escape to, no place to hide, for the last days encompass all of mankind all over the earth.

And in order to grasp what the last days are, which we will be speaking about in this book, we would also be well served at the beginning to define the terms you will encounter in reading the book. My purpose is not to add to all the confusion we see all around us today, but to provide comfort to believers in these days and to convey God’s warning to any reading this who might not know God that the time is short.

It was in 1992, after I had known God for twelve years, that He started making me aware of Biblical prophecy. And what is meant by Biblical prophecy here, and throughout this book, is what God says to us in the Bible of what will occur in the future. And so, from that time onwards I began noticing current events in the light of Biblical prophecy.

What is most important to notice about Biblical prophecy is that a lot of what God said in the past about the future has already been fulfilled, which means that a lot of what God said about Biblical prophecy is either now a past event or part of current events.

One prime example of fulfilled prophecy which is now a part of past events is all which God prophesied in the past regarding the first coming from Heaven to earth of His precious Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. In other words, all which God has said in the Old Testament about the first coming of His precious Son from Heaven to this earth has now been all fulfilled, since His Son has come to take on human flesh, has died to cleanse us of all our sins, has been buried, and has been raised again from the dead on the third day that those who believe in Him might receive eternal life with God. Then forty days later our precious Lord Jesus Christ ascended to Heaven again, where He sits at the right Hand of His Father, waiting for the time of His second coming, which is the event which a lot of Biblical prophecy is pointing to, of that which has not yet been fulfilled. We will deal more with this matter in chapter two of Section 1.

Then a prime example of Bible prophecy which is now part of current events is what God says to us at 2 Timothy 3:1-5, where we read:

"[1] But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. [2] For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, [3] unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, [4] treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, [5] holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these."

We will be saying a lot later in the book about this passage of the Bible, however, what is important to notice from what God says about the last days here is that this is being fulfilled before our eyes. In other words, as you read what God says here, ask yourself the question: Am I seeing this taking place all around me in the days in which I live? My own conclusion, which I even arrived at a number of years ago, is that this indeed does speak about the days in which we live. And not just here in North America, but this is true no matter what country you may be living in on earth, for God’s word is no respecter of geographical locations.

But before going any further, we should define the term "the last days" as used in the title of this book, and also see how it relates to Biblical prophecy. One useful place to start here is to note what God tells us at Hebrews 1:1,2, where we read:

"[1] God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, [2] in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world."

And what God refers to by the term "the last days" here is the time of fulfillment of all that God intends to do in time through His precious Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. In other words, the term ’the last days’ here begins with the first coming from Heaven to earth of God’s Son, and then ends at the end of time as we know it, after the second coming from Heaven to earth of God’s Son, which takes up the whole of the New Testament, so as to fulfill during that time period all that God plans to do in time, which He has prophesied in the Old Testament.

Then what is important to know is that within this time of fulfillment known as the last days, God has two ages, so that when one reaches the end of each of these ages, then that too may be called "the last days." And since the age in which we are now living in is the third age of time known as ‘the church age’ in Scripture, then it is the last days of this present age of the church that the author has in view in this book! More will be said about this in the second chapter of Section 1.

What this book is about then is to seek to show, based on what God has already said in the Bible, that we really are in the last days of the present age. We will begin by looking at Bible passages where God speaks of the last days of the present age; then go on to analyze the present time we live in as God desires us to; followed by an examination of the foundations which God established for human society and then seeing how they are now being virtually destroyed; with our then examining the recent rise, decline, and alignment of nations of the world, which need to take place before this present age ends; while also noting that the conditions to fulfill Revelation 13, dealing with the mark of the beast being required to buy and sell, are now all in place. Then we conclude with a word first to readers who may be believers and then to those who may not, encouraging the former while giving a word of warning to the latter. And so, when reading the comprehensive truths relating to the last days of this present age in this book the reader should have a heightened awareness, as the author has, that we are indeed living now in the last days of the present age!

What I would also like to make the reader aware of here, before bringing this Introduction to a close with a brief biographical sketch, is to point out that this book will not deal with speculations about Biblical prophecy! One example of Biblical prophecy which would be pure speculation is noting the recent case of a man, now deceased, who said that the second coming of our precious Lord Jesus Christ was going to occur on a certain date. Whenever you see anyone setting dates to any event relating to Biblical prophecy, then you can be sure that you are dealing with someone who is NOT being led by God, if the person is even a believer to start with, since the devil, as the deceiver, likes to see God’s children lose their peace of mind over speculations about future events. God meant Biblical prophecy as a warning to unbelievers, and as a comfort and encouragement to His own children, not for speculations!

Therefore, this book will deal strictly within the context of what God has said in the Bible relating to Biblical prophecy and will seek to avoid the trap of which God warns us about at 1 Corinthians 4:6, where we read:

"Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively applied to myself and Apollos for your sakes, so that in us you may learn not to exceed what is written, so that no one of you will become arrogant in behalf of one against the other."

To go beyond what God has written in His word, the Bible, is what is meant by speculation, and we will therefore seek to avoid it, under His guiding Hand!

And then a last thing that is necessary before bringing this introduction to a close is to let the reader know a little about the author, although this is the least important part of the book! Nevertheless, we are all curious by nature, so a few brief details are in order here.

I have had a personal relationship with God for over 34 years now, which is by far the best event that has ever happened in my life! At John 5:24, our precious Lord Jesus Christ tells us that anyone who believes in Him has "eternal life, and as a result will never experience God’s judgment, but such a one has passed out of death into life. What this means then is that before coming to believe in God, I was on my way to an eternity away from God in a literal place called hell," but by God’s mercy, grace, and love, I did come to believe in God’s Son from Heaven, Jesus Christ, namely in having believed that His death at the cross was for me, and that He was buried and then raised from the dead the third day, so that He is alive forevermore for God The Father to impart to me, through Him by The Holy Spirit, eternal life to live by! And now as a result I have the forgiveness of all my sins and eternal life with God. If this is not good news, then I do not know what is!

Another thing which might be useful in sharing is that God called His servant as an evangelist over 15 years ago, before sending him out over 2000 miles away from family and friends, to the place of service God assigned, and where His servant has been serving Him during that time. And this took place after having gone through 21 years of formal education, and then in having spent almost 28 years working project engineering in the corporate offices of a large utility.

It has also been my great pleasure to write, under God’s guiding Hand, nine Commentaries of books of the Bible, with some of these Commentaries taking from 3 to 4 years to complete. Also, there have been over 535 Devotional Commentaries on portions of the Bible, including more than 100 studies on various subjects found in the Bible. The foregoing work has been the foundation material that God has used in His servant’s counseling ministry these last 20 years, and also the background information to have in giving the sermon in a local church for 52 Sundays over a period of almost five years. And now God is using a lot of this material as background material also for the writing of the first and second book, and now also this one. All of this is to the glory of God alone, for the author knows full well that apart from God’s grace and power, he cannot do anything that will last for time and eternity!

The author was widowed over 20 years ago, his one and only wife having died of cancer at a young age. When the author married his wife, she herself was a widow of two years, having given birth to three children, who at the time of our marriage were 9, 12, and 15 years old respectively. The author did adopt the children, who have since gone on to each marry a Christian spouse, and then for each of these couples to have two children
