About this ebook

Jinx’s little sister, Ayla, has warned him time and time again that one day his mischief making will get him in to serious trouble. But Jinx isn’t interested in his sister’s warnings; not even when the trouble she warns him about is a cave full of goblins.

Like most pixies, Jinx loves to play tricks and explore. But, unlike most pixies, Jinx takes his tricks too far on a regular basis, causing chaos and taking risks that no other pixie would even consider, much to the amusement of his faerie dragon friends, Caia and Draco, and the annoyance of just about everyone else; especially Ayla. Now Jinx and his faerie dragon friends are off on a treasure hunt, and not even the threat of being captured and eaten by goblins is enough to stop them answering the call of adventure.

Victoria Zigler

Victoria Zigler is a blind vegan poet and children's author. Born and raised in the shadow of the Black Mountains of Wales, UK, she moved away from Wales three times: once to spend six months living in Alberta, Canada, the other times to spend a few years living near Hastings on the South-East coast of England, UK, each time returning to Wales. Now she lives in Wales again, along with a chinchilla named Mollie, a West Highland White Terrier named Lilie, a Cavapoo named Logan, a Hermann’s Tortoise named Artemis, and her Canadian husband, Kelly.Despite spending far too much time in hospital, and eventually losing her sight to Congenital Glaucoma, Victoria - or Tori, if you prefer - has been writing since she knew how, with no plans to stop any time soon. So far she has published 11 poetry books and 46 children’s books. Tori is also a contributor of the sci-fi and fantasy anthology Wyrd Worlds II, as well as the Poetry Treasures anthology. Additionally, her Hermann’s Tortoise, Artemis, was featured in both the Magnificent Pets Coloring Book For Children and the Magnificent Pets Mandala Coloring Book For Adults.Vegan due to both a love for animals and dairy allergy, as well as an Eclectic Pagan, Tori describes herself as a combination of Hermione Granger and Luna Lovegood from the Harry Potter books: Hermione’s thirst for knowledge and love of books, combined with Luna’s wandering mind and alternative way of looking at the world. She has a wide variety of interests, designed to exercise both the creative and logical sides of her brain, and dabbles in them at random depending on what she feels like doing at any given time, but is most likely to be found playing with her petkids, curled up somewhere with a cup of tea and a book, or trying to keep one step ahead of those pesky typo fairies while writing her own books.

    Prologue

Ayla leaned back against the rough bark of the tree’s trunk, closing her eyes and tilting her tiny face up to the ray of autumn sun, which lanced through the gaps in the leaves of the branches above the one on which she was sat. Her lips curved in to a contented smile as she felt the warmth of it on her closed eyelids. The brilliant orb turned the little pixie’s hair to gold, and made her silvery dragonfly wings sparkle like jewels. She loved moments like these, when the chill of winter still seemed far away, and she could enjoy the beauty of nature without fear of becoming a pixie shaped popsicle, but the heat of summer had faded.

Suddenly, the light was eclipsed by a shadow.

With a jolt of surprise, Ayla opened her eyes and frowned up at the shape hovering above her, her emerald eyes meeting the sapphire ones of her brother, Jinx.

Despite her excellent pixie hearing, Ayla hadn’t even heard him coming, but this was no surprise to her as Jinx was forever sneaking up on his sister, either just for the pleasure of making her jump, or to play some sort of prank on her.

There’s honey cake for tea, Jinx told his sister, then he flew away.

Ayla hesitated for a moment, but the lure of honey cake soon had her standing on the branch she’d been sitting on, straightening her pale green dress, smoothing out the folds of the silk with care, then flying after her brother.

She’d hardly flown more than a few inches before she heard her brother’s musical laughter ring out.

I wonder what he’s up to this time, she said to herself.

She didn’t have to wait long to find out.

Suddenly, Ayla felt something wet collide with her, and she dropped like a stone to the leaf strewn forest floor, grateful for the carpet of leaves, and that she’d picked a low branch to sit on as her wet wings failed to even slow her fall.

I suppose you think that’s funny, Ayla fumed, glaring up at her brother, who hovered in the air some distance above her, a pixie-sized woven-bark bucket swinging from one hand.

Actually, yeah, said Jinx, his musical laugh ringing out again.

Now I won’t be able to fly for ages, Ayla fumed. And I bet this dress is ruined, she added. She didn’t tell him how difficult silk was to get stains out of; she didn’t need to. Jinx wore a silk outfit too – all the pixies did – and Jinx had ruined more outfits than the rest of them put together with his mischief making and prank playing. She didn’t
