Introduction to Spending Less
Better small steps than big leaps
Changing your everyday lifestyle is a hard process to go through with, that’s why so many individuals that try a diet end up not seeing it to the end. They start with the mindset that they can make these dramatic changes to their life and it does work, for a while. Eventually, after a period of time they crumble to these changes and start to revert back to their old lifestyle. Cutting back on how much you spend on a day to day basis is a similar issue. If you charge at it with great intensity in the beginning, you will also find yourself reverting back to going on shopping sprees. This is why the best way to see success is to take small steps, rather than try for big leaps. Find one advice in this book to incorporate in your current lifestyle for a few weeks, after you can add another and so on. You will then begin to notice the great amount of positive change you have adapted to your lifestyle and how you feel comfortable with them.
You are not alone
Most spend money as if they found out it started to magically grow on trees, having multiple vehicle loans, mortgages and student loans. If you are someone that is struggling with debt and finds it increasingly harder to make ends meet, You should know right now that you are not alone, there are persons out there that are going through exactly what you’re going through, It may be friends, family or individuals online who are all sharing their experiences with the problem debt. There is hope because people are around you who want to help you through this situation.
Spend less than you receive
Your objective for each month is to try to spend less than the amount that you bring in monthly. If you constantly keep this objective, you will notice improvement in your financial situation. There are various ways to assure that you keep to this routine, traditional ways to accomplish this goal is to establish a budget, Putting a portion of your income to a savings plan immediately after you received it and the complete restrain of using credit cards. All these tips still lead back to the primary rule, spend less than you actually earn. The tactics that I will give in this book were all designed to help you meet this objective of spending less each month.
Know how much you really earn
You may be like some people who don’t see the need to employ tactics just to save a few dollars
so why not try a quick experiment. Calculate how many hours you work in a year, this should include projects that you work on at home, hours spent driving to and from work, hours spent buying work supplies and even time spent entertaining clients. Any time that you spend on work in anyway should be included. The next calculation is the amount that you make in a year also including any benefits you may receive, after you should subtract expenses for commute such as gas fuel and maintenance of your vehicle, child care, the cost of work clothes and the cost of any other supplies that you may purchase for your job or in relation. Lastly, divide the amount of money that you earn by the hours that you spend in relation to work to see how much you actually make at the end of the year. The figure that you get after you have completed your calculations will help you draw a comparison of everything that you do. So when you are thinking about buying the latest gadget you can easily use this calculation to see how much of your life you are giving to your work to afford the gadget. Still wondering if saving tactics are needed? You will notice as you go further in this book how these small steps can lead to big results in your finances over time than you could earn at your workplace.
Learn and master the fifteen second rule
If you are impulsive spender that needs to think before they spend then this is a great tactic that you can utilize. When you enter a store and you start to shop, you pick up an item, hold that item in your hand for fifteen seconds, at this moment take the time to think if you really need this item and if the money can be used for something else. When you use this tactic it will almost always guarantee that you will put back that unnecessary item back on the shelf and continue shopping proudly that you didn’t waste your money.
Keep an account of all the money you spend in a month
Money is lost in the simplest ways imaginably. We begin to spend a few dollars on something forgettable and some more on something that is unnecessary. When the end of the month arrives you will be astonished on how little money you really have in your pocket at the end of the month. Take a month to track your spending habits, making a note of every dollar that you spend and what exactly you spent it on. When you have reached the end of the month, take the time to examine the different expenses and decide which are essential and which you can do without. I guarantee that you will notice two things, the fact that you are writing down what you spend you will be much more vigilant of wasteful spending and the end of the month review that you will
