Will of the Gods - Sophia L. Jameson

    Will of the Gods

A leader of men and favored by the Gods, Alden Wulfric understood that Duty came before Love. That sometimes, the cost of Love was tragedy. Despite his breaking heart, he chose Duty. He chose Honor. Yet he never would have chosen either if he had anticipated how his choice would affect her.

Heartbroken, betrayed by the only man she had ever loved, Sewenna's sole purpose became revenge. To get it, she slept with the enemies, manipulated men and Gods alike, and blackened her soul until it was unrecognizable.

And her only chance of redemption was love.

    Will of the Gods

The endless fields of grains filled him with longing. Already, his heart was shattering.

Sighing, Alden Wulfric, Lord of the Wolves, grabbed his sword from the side of his bed, looking at the intricate designs adorning the sheath. It was the finest steel, capable of cutting through bones with not much effort. Despite his brute strength, the weapon was more than useful. Slowly, he pulled it free of its scabbard, examining the cold metal. It looked as sharp as it felt against one's skin, and just as deadly. He had killed many with it, had frightened many more. His brawn left many in fear of him, but it was his wits that not many considered upon meeting him, which often led to their demise. The sword had been forged in the pits of The Great Abyss by the God of Fire himself. Hindhgar, the God of Strength and Valor, had awarded it to Wulfric in exchange for a pledge of fealty to him and to the clan of Wolves, among the bravest of mortals.

Those of the clan of the Wolves were no ordinary men. They were not merely mortal, as all others were. Alden had been born knowing he was different. The call of the Moon, the rage in his blood, the strength in his limbs – those were not mortal traits. His face was that of a God, with chiseled features that made women sigh when they saw him. His body was pure brawn, his muscles as hard as stone. He could not help the way he looked, the gifts he'd been born with.

He was also a man of many lusts, but many more he kept inside him. Whenever he unleashed the beast that hid inside his body, many lives were taken, carnage ensued. His people had witnessed him in battle many times, and they revered him. They were his brethren, his fellow wolves. The clan of the Wolves had not been named arbitrarily. They were all like him, all consumed by a wolfish lust, but he was the strongest of them, the fiercest. There was not one Wolf that didn't fear him, and for good reason. They all sensed the fierceness inside him, the terrible animal he could become.

There was a single being on his lands that could inspire gentleness in him, and she was sleeping at his side, his linen sheet the only thing covering her naked body.

Sewenna was the most beautiful young woman he'd ever seen – and he had seen many in his two score and five years of age. He had tasted many, had angered many. Yet this lovely woman, all his, enchanted him.

Sheathing his sword back and propping it against the wall at the side of his bed, he turned towards the beauty lying beside him. Crawling back under the covers and pulling her against his chest, he buried his head in her hair, inhaling deeply. Instantly, Alden felt the worries of the previous day leaving him. He was delaying the inevitable, he knew, but he longed for one more night in her arms, one more night of oblivion. He would spend this day with her, grant her this much, then he would let her go.

It was the will of the Gods.

Tears of helplessness gathered at the corners of his eyes, but he refused to shed them. He would not mar the perfection of their limited time together, and he planned to enjoy it to the fullest.
