About this ebook
Revenge.
It's not a pretty word, and its results are even uglier. At its core it is a simple concept; someone made you suffer, so you make them suffer. It is best served disproportionately and after a slow boil.
So it shall be for me. This is my punishment, my just rewards for what I have done. Soon the truth will be revealed to me, but there is a spot of hope in all this darkness.
But I must fight to find it.

Prologue
Control
The Wraith,
I said. Back when Ishan and I were on the hill, before Shade’s coup and all that, it came to me and it said that the Champawat Tiger… it said that his soul writhes in shadow. I thought that was just a fancy way of saying he was in Hell, but—but I saw another Wraith tonight, and it said that…
I let go of Hailstone. It knew you killed Jacques. Not me, not Ishan, not anyone else. You.
God,
said Hailstone, his eyes widening. That’s who the Wraith is.
I was not free of the Champawat Tiger just yet.
Guilt wormed its way into my heart. I should not be here in Hailstone’s apartment. This wasn’t supposed to be and I shouldn’t have come. The guilt turned to anger and it surged through me; stupid, stupid little girl, wasting time with stupid thoughts.
In a way, I felt that I had betrayed Ishan, but I knew he would have trusted me anyway, which made me even more angry.
You okay?
Hailstone said, moving close to me. Too close. I pushed him away with a feral snarl.
"No, I am pretty fucking far from okay! Jacques is a fucking Wraith now."
He held up his hands, trying to placate me. We don’t know that for sure. Aurora, just calm down.
Do I look calm to you!?
What I said made no sense. I knew that. Hailstone just kept his hands up and shook his head. No, you don’t, but let me explain to you why what you’re saying is impossible.
I don’t think it’s impossible.
I knew I should listen. I took a deep breath, closed my eyes a second, and folded my arms. Okay, fine. I’m listening.
I knew that to listen I would have to close my mouth and open my ears, but I was too impatient. No, actually, wait. Question time. Number one: has a Rakshasa ever become a Wraith before? I thought it was only humans.
"It is only humans. It’s not possible for us to become one of them. Same as vampires, and other Therianthropes. Only humans can become Wraiths. I don’t know how the Wraith you met knew that I killed the Champawat Tiger, but it’s not what you think."
Then what is it?
I was being antagonistic and that wasn’t helpful. I knew, deep down, that this wasn’t Hailstone’s fault; but I had nobody else to take my frustration out on. Huh? Well?
I don’t know that. Aurora, we don’t know, okay? But let’s just take another breath, try to calm down, and find out together. Sound like a plan?
Being told to calm down just made me annoyed but I couldn’t help but accept it. I needed control; I needed to manage myself or I wasn’t going to do anything except pointlessly run in circles. Fine. But how?
"We need to draw
