About this ebook

Candice is a Jersey girl, who wouldn’t know a horse from a bicycle.

But when she gets caught up in a twisted heartbreak, delivered firsthand by her high school sweetheart, her life is turned upside down. She was stuck in an unfulfilling job after doing all of the “right” things in life, like going to college, had her world shattered by her boyfriend and never really felt like she could be herself in her hometown.

She needed to get away.

After having an epiphany about life, she decides to sell most of her belongings, pack up her car and drive to wherever her car will take her.

After more than 20 hours of driving, that trip hits a detour, as a storm causes her to car to break down, and she’s in the middle of nowhere, in need of help. A handsome cowboy comes to her rescue, and not only helps to get her out of harm’s way, he shakes up her world again, this time, for the better.

Candice gets a crash course in love and how a gentleman should treat a lady. Her cowboy is a rugged, dominant alpha male with countless acres of land and everything he wants in life, but behind his cheerful, masculine demeanor lies a hidden pain that only a woman can cure.

Will they fill each other’s gaps and be open to what fate has brought them?

    A Cowgirl at Heart

    By Marlo Peterson

Looking down at my gas indicator and seeing that my car was almost on empty didn’t bother me that much. If you drive long enough, it’s bound to happen to you eventually.

What bothered me was that it was 2 o’clock in the morning, pitch black and I was driving through a remote location of Oklahoma where the next exit for hotels or gas wasn’t for another 80 miles. I thought that these types of places only existed in the cartoon, and had no idea that there was still that much undeveloped land in the United States.

To top it off, the pelting of rain beat against my vehicle so hard and fast that I couldn’t see more than five feet in front of me. My fingers gripped into the wheel until I heard my knuckled crack. Though I was dead tired and hopped up on coffee, my eyes didn’t blink.

These circumstances weren’t helped by the fact that I felt I was doing something wrong. I had ended my lease, sold most of my belongings and packed everything that could fit in the back of my old faithful vehicle in order to start a new life out west. I didn’t know where that would be, and I didn’t know how long I would be there or what I would do when I got there, but the restraints of this world were getting too much for me. I wanted something new, something spontaneous.

Possibly more than that, I needed my heart to heal.

I had just gone through a horrible breakup and needed to clear my head. Needing to clear my head turned into an impromptu decision to leave everything that I knew and to start a new life, somewhere, anywhere but here.

My vehicle had carried me many miles, and for more than 20 hours of driving in one day. I didn’t know how I was still awake, and hadn’t planned on stopping any time soon, but it seemed as though I might have to. The wheel began to shake as the rain pounded, and I feared for my safety. I didn’t like the feeling of being the only car on the road in such a remote area. If I didn’t have my GPS system guiding me, it would feel like I had made a horribly wrong turn somewhere.

Seeing only five to ten feet in front of me, I made
