About this ebook

“But, there is a far more malevolent power at work in the world. It influences and manoeuvres individuals in key positions, and through them exerts control over Earth’s populace.
And it has been doing this for millennia.”

Popular culture has always depicted Satan as a figure with horns, a tail, and a pitchfork. Mention of the words Satan or Devil immediately provokes images of a fallen angel, the adversary of Almighty God, a creature assigned to oversee a fiery underworld where sinners are tortured for all eternity.

In some parts of the world, communities perform rituals and chant mantras to keep him at bay, while in others he is regarded as little more than a cartoon character that only the ignorant believe to be real.

But, who and what is he? What are his goals concerning us? How does he operate? Who are his accomplices? And how can we resist him?

Harry Hanbury takes the Bible as his source, to discover how this being is truly depicted, what it is responsible for and why we should be worried!

He identifies what could be described as the greatest threat to the human race and shows how it may be repelled.

Essential reading for both students and those interested in how the Bible describes its darkest character.

    KNOW YOUR ENEMY –

EXPOSING THE SATAN OF THE BIBLE

    ––––––––

    Harry Hanbuy

CHAPTER ONE – Identifying the Enemy

The greatest enemy of humankind has been identified as different things down through the ages. Some believe that a human flaw, like greed, will be our species’ eventual undoing. Others point out infamous figures of evil in history, such as Adolf Hitler, Pol Pot and Sadam Hussein, and are alert to the rise of dictators on the political scene.

But, there is a far more malevolent power at work in the world. It influences and manoeuvres individuals in key positions, and through them exerts control over Earth’s populace.

And it has been doing this for millennia.

In some parts of the world, it has people living in morbid dread of it; in most parts of the world, and the supposed more civilised Western world, it is regarded as little more than a cartoon character.

The Holy Bible, while written by forty different men from various social structures and backgrounds (some were shepherds, some were prophets, some were kings, some were fishermen and one was a doctor) over a period of some 1500 years, claims to be inspired by the Creator of the universe and the originator of life on Earth, Almighty God. (2 Samuel 23:2; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21).

Within its pages we are enlightened to the identity and operation of Man’s greatest enemy.

The original manuscripts of the Bible were written mainly in the languages of Hebrew and Greek. Man’s greatest enemy is attributed the title ‘Satan’, a Hebrew word meaning ‘resister, adversary.’  He is also described as the Devil, a Greek term meaning ‘deceiver, slanderer.’

While the names Satan and Devil have come to represent in the minds of many a mythical creature with horns and a pointed tail overseeing some underground place of fiery torture and to others a figure of comedy, these descriptions do not come from scripture.

In the Bible, Satan is the most malevolent being ever to have existed. He is full of vindictiveness and spite. He is utterly debased, bitter, twisted and riddled with hatred. He hates mankind in particular.

Who and what is he, really? What are his goals concerning us? How does he operate? Who are his accomplices? And how can we resist him?

    What Satan Is Not

As already stated, the Devil is not a physical creature, a ‘monster’ with horns and a pitchfork. Contrary to what some religions teach, the Bible does not describe him as a being deliberately created by God to serve Him as the overseer of Hellfire. He was not assigned as our prosecutor. Nor is he the exact equal and opposite of God in terms of intelligence and power (the idea that good cannot exist without evil is not a scriptural concept).

Satan being a physical creature comes from the classic art of traditionalist Christian churches, and (whether artists and clergy know it or not) has served his purpose well. These images have influenced Christians down through the centuries and have bled into modern culture, appearing in children’s television programmes and adult
