Dating a Dark Elf took some getting used to, but Marla wouldn't have had it any other way. She'd never been happier than she was in the few weeks they'd been together. She and Toke were from very different worlds, but their mated feeling was a shared one. Toke looked at her like she was the most beautiful woman he'd ever laid eyes on, and he'd proven himself to  be just as straightforward and thoughtful as her man as he'd been when they were still platonic and dancing around their attraction to one another.

Marla watched as he packed the bamboo carrying boxes at his feet with a number of salves, extracts, and dried herbs. She was still extremely impressed with the depth of knowledge he possessed on the holistic end of things, and through careful attention, she was beginning to pick up the basics with a solid amount of confidence.

She'd been getting better at identifying the local plants Toke shared with her when she visited, and though she was pretty sure she'd never rise to his level of expertise, she was getting the basics in a way she'd failed to under the tutelage of the maniac. That was what she was calling Mr. Phelps now, though she tried to not call him anything at all.

She was still fairly shaky after their run-in with him, and Toke's feeling that there would certainly be more trouble emerging from his camp furrowed her brow as she watched Toke pack the last of the supplies he'd be trading with his herbalist friend in an hour or so.

I still don't see why I can't come with you, she told him with a slight tone of annoyance. I'm good back-up. You've seen that for yourself.

Toke's violent eyes flicked up, sparkling, and he grinned looking over her dollish face.

Calm your fires. I'd prefer you save those for when I get back.

His words gave Marla a twinge of anticipation, and her own lips curved into an indulgent smile.

I'd appreciate it if you hurried back then, she said, half-relenting.

Trades with Mela are a usual thing. I'll be back before the sun sets.

Marla's gaze drifted from his to the reading materials he'd given her, and she turned to the first page, her eyes glancing over the title.

It helps if you actual read it, Toke offered, crossing over to her and placing a kiss on her forehead that quickly lowered to her nose and then her lips.

Marla tilted her head up to his and caught his lips with hers, relishing the dance of their tongues. Toke's kiss was masterful, and set every nerve-ending on fire within her. She wanted to tug against him, and pull him into the room with her when he broke away from their lip lock, but she reined herself in. He was an achingly beautiful male. She'd never tire running her fingers over his lithe musculature, or pressing kisses to his lush, dark wood colored lips.

Toke's hand brushed her cheek affectionately, and he stepped back toward the bamboo trunks, closing their lids and affixing the locks with a dutiful sigh.

Marla forced back the flicker of worry that tried to form a picture of him getting ambushed by mages looking to relieve him of his hair, nails, and other bits of DNA. The thought made her feel almost murderous, but she knew she had to place a little trust in him, or their new romance would devolve into a strained connection filled with nag-fests and quests for an escape hatch that would
