      Introduction

      There is a stark contrast between good and evil, just as there is between light and darkness. According to the urban legend, when the atheist professor claimed that God created evil, therefore is evil, Einstein challenged this concept. He so cleverly asked the professor if cold and darkness existed. The professor said of course, but Einstein proceeded to explain that cold is the absence of heat and darkness is the absence of light. Likewise, evil is the absence of what is holy, or more specifically, the absence of God.

      Imagine you are stranded on a boat, it’s night time and a helicopter comes to your rescue. When the spotlight falls upon you, you may be well lit up, but all you see is a bright light which blinds you to everything around you.

      Imagine God. He’s beaming his holy light down upon you. All you see is his holiness and nothing else around you. Just as a frightened deer gazes stunned at the headlights of an oncoming vehicle, you keep focussed. This reminds me of a song I’ve been singing since I was a child;

      Turn your eyes upon Jesus

      Look full in His wonderful face

      And the things of earth will grow strangely dim

      In the light of His glory and grace

      How true these lyrics are. What was Lot and his family strictly warned not to do when fleeing the city of Sodom? That’s right, they weren’t to look back.

      One day I did look away. I looked behind me and saw what God’s light illuminated. I saw everything that I was not meant to see.

      And thus my story begins….
